I have an old TV. Those box-shaped classic one. I like my TV ALOT, but the small screen bothers my eyes unless I'm sitting on top of it and even then it still does. I wear semi-thick glasses and have sensitivities too to dark or too bright games. Dark as in Batman AA, too bright as in Mirrors Edge. What TV do you recommend? I have too take frequent breaks due too eye strain and sometimes getting mad at... stuff. So my living rom has a 32-inch TV that is much better for my eyes but I play games in my room so... I need that size TV.

Yeah. I watch all size TVs at electronic stores and 48' is way too big for me as well.

Or watching me place REs on tanks massacring my teammates. Even though the teammates can be dicks sometimes.

SONY and SAMSUNG make the best TVs. Sharp, Panasonic and LG are also good choices. SONY if you don't care about price because they are the best TVs. LEDLCD is going to give you good performance at a decent price, don't go plasma unless you need extra heat in your room. Regular LCDs TVs use florescent bulbs that can't be controlled as well as a LED LCD. If you want the best of the best then go OLED, you get the best picture, the best contrast ratio, vibrant colors, very thin TV and lower power and heat.
I have a 40 something cheap-o that I got a good deal on but I used to repair TVs and seeing what you wrote I would suggest a high contrast ratio because of your sensitivity to light levels. The higher the contrast ratio the more difference between the blackest black and the whitest white, it will allow you to have a better average brightness. OLED would be my suggestion if you have the money or a plasma if you can stand the heat and price because they both have outstanding contrast ratios.

I recommend getting a PC monitor with a HDMI input to play on. Much lower input lag than a TV (like 10-20 times).

1080 on anything under 30+ cracks me up because what is the point?
Not saying it isn't good, my 23 monitor is 1080 but sometimes the image is so small it is difficult to see things in the distance.

We bought some Viewsonic LCDs at my job in industry and they were industrial rated TVs ( I don't know the difference ) and they were all broken within six months. They all had circles appear on the screen that didn't display, I have seen every type of messed up screen there is but those were the first I have ever seen that just did it over night for no apparent reason. I think moisture and vibration did it but it even happened to the monitors in the offices so I am not sure. I have never owned one so I can't speak about their regular TVs.
We just started buying Vizio to replace them and they never messed up.

well, i've seen 10's of thousands of monitors in the last 25yrs and thats peculiar especially given the fact that View Sonic has been winning awards since the 80's.

I like Samsungs HDTV Monitor range and would recommend one, as the name sugests it's a Monitor and TV combined. Digital tuner built in, speakers, all the connections you'll need etc etc. I currently use the T24C350.

Just telling you what my experience has been with them and they were expensive monitors. I have fixed 1000s of TVs and I have never met a LG that didn't work until my friend brought me one he found on the side of the road and I have seen SONY TVs work with a hole in the screen. I am not saying they are bad, I am just telling you what my dealings with them have been like. We bought about 10 around a year ago and they are all in the trash now.

Sometimes it is cheaper to by a nice monitor than a TV. SONY used to make a 40 something monitor with no speakers or tuner and only a few inputs and it was very inexpensive compared to TVs because there were less components.

I've been playing on one of those lately, I sympathize. I normally play on a 46" 1080i and this 19" CRT thing sucks. I can't see a ******* thing. It's all fuzzy, the chevrons are way off, and numerous other little annoyances just make this game a pain in the ass.
Optimally, a 32" 780i would be a suitable and cheap. Whatever is on sale locally will do. Do it. Do it now. You'll thank yourself immediately.

Or get a classic CRT TV, since you should be running this game in SD resolution anyway.
In that case, we are talking sub microsecond input delays. But you will have problems with scanlines and other stuff.

Sony or Samsung HDTV's are worth their price. The cheapest one I know of are made by Vizio.
Either way if you decide to pick an HDTV at least get one that has for minimum 720i or 720p, 46" & refresh rate of 120 Mghz (or is it MHz?) anything lower than 120 and you run the risk of burning an after image on the screen especially if you use that TV for a lot of video games.
Check out stores like Costco, also some stores that accept Discover Credit cards will include an extra 1 year warranty coverage again ask the store.
It's your money, so make it worth it. |
