For those that don't know. Almost all the planets in EVE can be harvested for various commodities (by EVE players only). To transfer products on and off the planet, they need to be moved via a customs office that orbits the planet. Players can also use a launchpad to launch materials directly into orbit (but cannot send stuff down).
Whoever owns the customs office may apply a tax to the transfer of materials.
It would be cool if merc players could take over the custom offices, either by directly infiltrating it, or by controlling a particular district on a planet (capital city perhaps?). Once they control the planet, they can then gain money from EVE players that use it.
This would be a really good way to introduce a game mode that involves both EVE and Dust players.
How this could work.
- EVE player attacks customs office and puts it reinforced mode (invulnerable). Or Dust players take over the district below which puts it into reinforced mode.
- Once the customs office comes out of reinforcement. Dust players can enter and take it over. EVE players can transport them directly to the customs office with no need for them to hold the district below. Or if they do own a district, they get free access, and don't need an EVE player to transport them
- The EVE ship holds the attackers CRU. If it get's destroyed the attacking players cannot re-spawn. Defenders have a CRU onboard.
- Owning the district below the customs officer gives a bonus to the owning side.
Pro's - Makes PC more interesting as it creates districts of varying value on a planet. - Allows Dust players to disrupt and take stuff from EVE players (finally) - A good 'tracer bullet' to see how a game mode that heavily involves players from both games could work. - Indoor map with no vehicles (but eventually MTACS) - Disruptive game play for small groups of players.
Con's - Passive income that could exacerbate the already massive income problems with PC. - Requires entirely new maps (though smallish) |

they are removing the profit from district locking.
this idea can be done with player owned stations and capital class ships.
only eve corps can put out contracts to capture such property's and must be at war with the owners corp / alliance. the owners corp can in return have insurance contracts to have their mercs and or any one defend their property.
the pay out for the battles should be profitable for the winners and break even for the loosing side.
I could give you 10 reason why the Dust team cant get the Amarr tank style right but they are all out of care.

I believe Dust Mercs will be able to build 'Space elevators' eventually. And, I hope handle some Planetary Interaction of their own. Not all planets in New Eden will support having boots on ground, even in protective suits, so Eve players will be able to harvest from those planets.
Its just one of many Soon Gäó things for now, I'm afraidGǪ

Just remembered that star bases are dependent on planets for their fuel.
Being able to affect the supply of starbase fuel could be very annoying to EVE players.
Which is why we must be able to do it ;) |
