You say that like "Smart Deploy" doesn't spawn you in the exact same place.
I think I'm a forum warrior level 6 :D

Hm.
I gave up on tankbush long ago, but I fail to see how an uplink somewhere on the periphery of the map (possibly on top of a building or otherwise non-snipable, non blaster-tankable location) is any worse than the hilariously titled "smart" deploy.

Uplinks like 150-200m from the middle of the map all on the outside of the map help prevent tank/proto stomping more than anything. Whenever you get the blob to continuously spawn in the same area is when you dominate.
Deploying uplinks stupidly is the problem. Don't just stop. |

HAHAHAHAHA!!! You ARE joking right? Well placed uplinks have won many an ambush game.
Poorly placed droplinks have lost just as many. Like the links idiots immediately drop at the initial spawn. These idiot's links are the reason I start 75% of ambushes in a fast suit with 6 links, so I can escape this potential spawn pin situation before it starts and get you 2 decent fallback locations. If the fallbacks aren't needed, you'll find the other 4 links placed out on the enemies flanks and rear. If used properly these can quickly cause the REDs to suffer the spawn pin they were trying to inflict on us.
If the fallbacks ARE needed immediately you will find me setting up others even further back on high ground or in defensable locations just BEFORE you need them.
Without drop links there is no way to break a spawn pin.
Without links there is never a guarantee of any safe spawn.
Stupidly placed drop links lose plenty of ambush games, no doubt about that, but it's no reason to beleive they should NEVER be used in that game mode.

Do not ask for anything in this pathetic game mode...
Do not ask anybody to play the game your way...
I will plant uplinks whenever I want, if you think that entitles you to anything, your wrong! This is a broken game, live with it! |

If given the choice to "smart deploy" in the middle of a bloodbath with our group getting massacred on two sides -or- somewhere away from the carnage, I'll pick the latter every time. |

GREEDY FVKKER TO HELL WITH YOUR POINTS LEARN TO FIGHT. I disagree. uplinks are critical to winning an ambush contract.
the entire match hinges on the first engagement between forces and and well placed uplinks allow even a disadvantaged force to keep pressure on the opposing force for a longer time.
lets say we have 2 perfectly matched teams(lol matchmaking) Red and Blue. red team has uplinks and blue doesn't. red teams uplinks allow them to spawn closer to the fight and keep their force consolidated, blue team is using smart spawn. smart spawn is an (intentionally) unpredictable mechanic. blue team will lose some clones off the bat to bad spawns, others will be spawned at a distance from the engagement resulting in less time on target. eventually (barring anomalies) red will gain a minor advantage on blue that will snowball into a full rout. up until now the clone loss via bad spawn for blue has been largely negligible and roughly equivalent to reds losses to compromised uplinks (the travel time difference gave red the advantage). now is when blue falls apart and suffers massive casualties. something clicks in smart spawn's system and it starts spawning blue team's mercs in another location. for a little while smart spawn is spawning mercs in 2 different locations dividing blue's forces. divided and largely without reinforcements blue is easily over run and red suffers very minimal clone loss.
blue often never fully re-consolidates and in the case that they do the clone differential is typically enough to give red the win.
