I know A-scanners are a bit OP and I dont use them often, but I find lately when I do use them the scan results are totaly wrong. Scanned tward a building and got "no margin of error" and nothing shows up, scan again to be sure. I turn the corner to go in and theres a heavy with an HMG just standing there. no CRUs no objective he either just apeard out of thin air or my scanner is useless. Im going for useless because this has started to become a more frequent ocorance.

This happens to me when I decide to use my scanner.
What I find even more annoying is standing right next to a TANK, and nothing shows on the radar

My scanner works just fine (I rarely run a suit without one) and I've not noticed any mistakes in scanning like those you describe. Odd..... |

Maybe you just first stand in a way of too much buildings and thick walls. Usually buildings and metal objects are harder to scan through than a hill or rocks. And maybe the heavy had a skills in profile dampening too :P. |

Yeah, it's really ****** up. I'll get "NO MARGIN OF ERROR" and nothing shows up, when there's a huge group of enemies right there!!!

Passive scanning > Active
I leveled it up in preparation for 1.8 (Cal scout FTW!) and run my 'Dren' scout with a range booster, but I've also noticed a great improvement with my med suits, especially in CQB. There have been times I literally played ring-around-the-NULL Cannon with someone and thinking I was gone, started hacking and got blapped. Plus "squad sight" is definitely working (I've confirmed it; for those who don't know, it means people you passively scan are seen by squad members).

Is it possible that the heavy sacrificed all of its slots in favor of Complex Profile Dampeners?

1: it was a standard heavy which would give him 2 complex profile dampeners, which isent enough to beat my scanner
2: it should or would say "some margin of error" on my scan result

I don't believe this happens anymore, it used to, but according t findings amongst scouts it's been changed to say only no margin of error

Frightening isn't it. I love my fully dampened heavy suit for point defense. Get a logi to throw down some ammo hives and a 70/sec armor rep hive and wait for the unsuspecting scanner dependent red dot to think that they are in the clear. See them confidently walk around the corner and then freak the hell out at the HMG stuffed in their face.
Makes me laugh EVERY TIME!

Been noticing the same thing. I'll be surrounded by enemies, and they won't light up. Still gives me the no margin of error message. Tanks too. Sometimes they'll be right next to me and I'll hit them with the scanner and they won't light up. |

I know I've had problems with scanners sometimes too... When I use my 35 sec scan, I can see team for 2 sec then gone. Maybe because lag switchers? |

I think this is what happend tho CCP really should tell us when they change sh** like this, oh and reguardless there is still no way a standard heavy can beat my scanner

Scans are certainly buggy.
I have level 5 scanners and over time I have pretty much used each and every scanner at some point. I once was using the Duvolle quantum, and some guy was able to stealth around my scans. I asked him after the match "Why did you not show up on my scanner, or why was I not told there was ~Some Margin Of Error~"
To which he replied, that the scanners do not show that half the time, he suggested I used the Duvolle Focused (15Db scanner). I have had less issues with the Duvolle focused. However there are certainly times when the scanner does not do it job properly.
Other times people are only half scanned or disappear off the tac net much earlier than they should. All in all the scanner could do with some looking at from CCP to improve the way it functions.

We've done some testing with that q-syncing against each other in FW when we were having issues with the scanners. Could be just pure coincidence, but it seems that if you JUST barely beat the scanner (Being at 32-35 db when being scanned by an ADV scanner with a 36db precision) it shows the "Some margin of error" but if you beat it by ~5 or more it says "No margin of error". Adv sentinel suit with 3 complex damps on it gets the profile down to like 29.44 db.

Tested with no profile damps mods on medium and heavy suits.
Case one: distance to enemy scanner 90 to 100 m scan prevented. Case two: distance to enemy scanner: 0 to 50 m: you have been scanned.
Questions: Perhaps there are two algorythyms where active scanner results are decided?
Perhaps it uses a three ring choice matrix? Close ring: 90% you will be scanned/ 10% you will not be scanned? Medium ring: 60% you will be scanned/ 40% you will not be scanned? Far ring: 90% you will not be scanned/ 10% you will be scanned?
The only scanner that looks like it maybe gives consistent results is the prototype fused scanner 15db??
Kind of like weapons? Basic= meh, advanced=good or bad depending on situation and proto= mostly good??
