I had an idea after reading the thread about vehicle burn damage. What if explosive weapons (Excluding Forge guns as they are basically EMP weaponry.) Had a chance to set the target on fire. This feature is in many RPGs and this game is practically an RPG. (I say, just look at all those numbers) Fire at a vehicle, enemy player, or even the ground and it will possibly combust.
The ground has a higher chance but sometimes fails. Enemy players are somewhere in the range of medium chance. and vehicles have a high chance. Certain weapons will inflict burning damage to certain types. For example. a Flaylock pistol takes 1-2 shots to light the group ablaze. an enemy may take 2-3. but a tank will take six shots before it will burn. Now a plasma cannon per say would have a ability to set a tank on fire with one shot but might take 2 shots to light people on fire. Now the amount of damage a weapon does to a object will vary depending on the gun you are shooting and the thing you are shooting at;
1. I shoot a mass driver at a person. He is within the blast radius and ignites. He takes 5p/s of damage. 2. I shoot at a tank with my mass driver. he ignites after three shots. he takes 50p/s damage.
This mechanic could tie in with the different planet types. it's easier to ignite someone on a volcano/lava planet but harder on a Ice planet.
This idea could spawn weapon variants such as incendiary grenades, Mass drivers and Flaylock pistols, and other things. Then they could release a stand alone weapon. The Amarr Flame thrower. A heavy weapon which functions like a normal flame thrower. this way they wouldn't have to stress over making a heavy Amarr laser. (Not saying they shouldn't but this would be easier and more dramatic than an oversize golden **** shooting yellow lasers.)
(Also a side note. Every planet in New Eden has oxygen in the atmospheres. Otherwise Burning vehicles wouldn't exist right now.)

Da ground has a higher chizzle but sometimes fails. Enemy playas is somewhere up in tha range of medium chance. n' vehiclez gotz a high chance. Certain weapons will inflict burnin damage ta certain types. For example. a Flaylock pistol takes 1-2 shots ta light tha crew ablaze. a enemy may take 2-3. but a tank will take six shots before it will burn, so check it before ya wreck it. I aint talkin' bout chicken n' gravy biatch. Now a plasma cannon per say would gotz a mobilitizzle ta set a tank on fire wit one blasted but might take 2 shots ta light playas on fire. Now tha amount of damage a weapon do ta a object will vary dependin on tha glock yo ass is blastin n' tha thang yo ass is blastin at;
1. I blast a mass driver at a person. I aint talkin' bout chicken n' gravy biatch yo. Dude is within tha blast radius n' ignites yo. Dude takes 5p/z of damage. 2. I blast at a tank wit mah mass driver n' ****. he ignites afta three shots, n' you can put dat on yo' toast. tha pimpin' muthafucka takes 50p/s damage.
This maniac could tie up in wit tha different hood types. itz easier ta ignite one of mah thugs on a volcano/lava hood but harder on a Ice hood.
This scam could spawn weapon variants like fuckin incendiary grenades, Mass drivers n' Flaylock pistols, n' other thangs. Then they could release a stand ridin' solo weapon. I aint talkin' bout chicken n' gravy biatch. Da Amarr Flame thrower n' shiznit fo' realz. A heavy weapon which functions like a aiiight flame thrower n' ****. dis way they wouldn't gotta stress over bustin a heavy Amarr laser n' ****. I'd argue it would be better to give us new weapons that allowed for that "burning sensation."

I don't think the burn affect should be for all explosive weaponry. I think it should be limited to a few weapons. |

All of the explosive weapons have been nerfed one way or another due to their power and/or effectiveness. Except plasma cannons. If you add passive damage with the burn effect, you're just adding another possibility of further imbalance to the existing weapons.
I've seen the effects of passive burn damage on other games, as well as flame throwers. The effects of passive damage will lead to the next FOTM. And with flamethrowers, if done correctly, can easily blind it's opponent to where you can shoot them because all you see is a bright ball of flames dancing in your face. Fast movers like scouts will be spamming flamers like there's no tomorrow due to what they can do with it.
Leave flamethrowers and incendiary damage out of DUST. We don't need it. In a co-op game. I'm all for it, because that's the type of game I've seen these weapons in. |
