Hi all. I would like to open a healthy discussion on Red Lining. I speak as a Red Liner and a Red Lined player.
It seems these days that In Factional and Skirmish contracts it is uncommon to have a close, well balanced and thoroughly enjoyable game. Either you get RL or you RL which normally leads to a boring GÇÿnot so funGÇÖ game for both teams.
What normally happens in a RL game:
1. More than half the losing side give up depending on how cruel and blood lustful the winning side is.
2. The winning side show no mercy and end up racing each other for the scraps of what few reds come out to play. Which BTW decreases to the point of nobody wanting to party and end up either sniping, leaving or just whimpering inside their MCC wishing it would all go away.
What I propose is GÇÿOperation False HopeGÇÖ
I suggest when the game is clearly a RL situation that we (the red liners) pull back from the Reds home objective and give it back allowing them to them keep it.
IGÇÖm crazy you say? IGÇÖm honour bound and clearly a big softy eh?
Not so.
LetGÇÖs think about the effect of this.
1. More than half the Red Lined would still be willing to come out and party. Sure they may take back another point but hey! now we have a little game on our hands and beats running for scraps or defending a point and have no reds show up ALL MATCH. This also gives the Reds hope and more enjoyment for them especially those new to the game. We all know this game is not friendly to newbies and can be very off-putting.
2. Blues would have a more active game and check this out. You may actually have more things to hack, rep, remote, shoot and even get more kills in the process!
So when should a game be deemed RL and won? Oh come on. You just know when.
How can this be implemented?
Well as a start all those in active Corps and Squads should discuss this and If you know another language, translating to other sections of the forum would be a good thing. Putting across this idea in team chat when possible would also be a good start.
Yep we will still have blues doing the mad red line rush but if the squads / Sq leaders follow these proposed protocols then this would lessen the chance of boring matches.
What say ye?

Yeah i know. Maybe something all the 'sync teams' could start doing then? That way the team is singing from the same song sheet it would be a start at least.

Yeah, this is something we did in the past. It's especcially fun if you have two stacked squads.
Push them to the red line.
Everybody retreat at once to your own red line.
Call in LAVs (one each) and start LAV racing betwheen the reds. (occasional rad kill is OK, but don't overdo it)
Then when they have capped all nodes, "Operation Recapture" commences and everybody swarms for all nodes at once...
It's hillarious, we had more fun than in most other games, close or not. |

This would be wonderful to do if everyone involved could participate in the same game and we have a controlled environment.
This would be the equivalent of what Red vs. Blue corps are doing in EVE. One corp is Red and the other is Blue. They are constantly wardecced with each other. They have fights in and around certain systems and only go as high as cruisers except for special events.
If PC can get fixed then maybe that would be an option. Pubs ain't gonna happen until there is an open system put in place.

Personally in PC i think the more dirty the better. Theres more at stake and ya wanna boot those cheeky mercs right out of your hood.
Well i feel that having this chat on its own may raise awareness of those that are Sq leaders to actually try it out.
Next time ya all bored looking at a blue/green map have a chat about it amongst ya Sq. If they tell ya to go to hell then blame me

I wouldn't call it nice though, you can still farm kills from their CRU/letter (which is why I encourage it, demoralize your opponent, give them hope only to crush it).
I was in a match last night where we had nearly a full squad just camping a CRU with full logi support, blue hives all around it and several needles nearby.
Dumbass reddots just wouldn't stop spawning there, so we just kept putting them down, over and over and over and over again.
I imagine the rage was loud with some of them, IDK though with no prox chat.

So this idea is something that we've been playing with for a while, and while it is a lot more fun when the red lined red dots actually do come out and play, its always ruined by that one "Helpful" blue dot who runs in and hacks the objective for the 100 points instead of thinking ahead at all the possible kills he could get.
I've taken to camping the last red objective in a dampened scout suit and killing any blue dot that tries to hack it in FW while leaving the reds alone until they have a large enough group to try to make a push from their objective. Yes I'm a team killer in some of these games, but when most of the enemy team is straight out of the academy and are only on the other side because they don't know how to select 1 or 2 factions to fight for, they always get put on Caldari or Aamar due to everyone wanting Gal or Min LP equipment, and lets face it. They need all the help they can get.
I am here to ask you one question, and one question only: EXPLOSIONS?

I think you don't get it, this is not about spawn camping, it's about retreat and recapture of big if not all parts of the map.
Spawn camping is pathetic. I know that it only works on the less intelligent red dots, but it's pathetic anyway. Killing your own team members who like to prevent spawncamping is even more pathetic...

Actually, what is pathetic is the level of intelligence with some reddots when they continue to spawn on a camped spawn point.
If you've spawned in there only to die more than once, pick a different spawn or don't cry about being spawn camped. Spawn camping is a legit tactic that was purposefully kept in by CCP.
If you think it is bad now, be glad you weren't here for the Closed Beta when you didn't get a spawn cloak and your appeared on the battlefield before your field of view loaded (which is to say that reddots saw you and killed you before you saw anything).
Also, I really find it amusing how many of the "hardcore" new eden fps'ers deride spawn camping, the only reason I can think of it deride it is because you don't like it happening to you and if you're not smart enough to change spawn points then you deserve to be laughed at and farmed.

I usually do not spawn twice on a camped spot... Spawn camping is just cheap farming of kills, if you have fun doing that, well then you are part of the problem... I don't like spawn camping at all! That the camped guys are not the wisest or experienced guys doesnt make it any better.

Good idea but it would simply be better if matchmaking had some kind of system to balance the teams. Grouping players by SP spent/ total kills or something along those lines.

I got ya name, number and rank.
Yeah sure thing.
So folks! any feedback? anyone have a talk within their active Sq/ corps about this tactic? remember its not about farming a CRU/link, its not about honour, its about giving them/us/me hope and as a result get more kills. I had one such contract last night and was boring as hell with both teams having LOW scores/kills due to mercs giving up.
May i suggest everyone does something fun at times like this. To give the other side some time to regroup lets all LAV DEATH RACE! I'm a betting man and willing to put up a little ISK. We tend to do this when bored.
Everyone bets 100k* and the winner takes all!
First to 5 Laps or the last to survive running into blue tanks along the way is the winner. Bonus isk prize of 10k* from each merc for the first to RK a red whilst on the track.
Could be a fun thing if we could get 2 full Sq in the same race and on the plus side, If the maps start flashing we all got transports.
*suggested amount only

There we go! whats more fun than having a Death Race in LAVs whilst avoiding tanks and friendly dropships. If the reds dont wanna party then we create one for ourselves. LAV turrets allowed. Hell i think we need to arrange an event lol i won't punish ya honest
