You know... I really am happy I have a PC setup in the works.
Seriously, maybe I'll go play PS2, or Arma 3, or EVEmu and enjoy my time playing games instead of looking on these accursed forums and seeing people ***** about things from the audience CCP went to entertain, to the CPM, to the Dev Blog, and back to FOTM Bets.
Good god, maybe I might have some peace on the internet.
Dear PC Master Race,
I am getting a Geforce GTX 750. I currently have a 300 Watt PSU in my computer, which is a total stock HP Pavilion p6310y.
Should I upgrade my PSU to a 400 watt PSU, or leave it be?
Because you Wanted to be Something your Not.

Oh, and be sure to have a least 8gb ram too. It's pretty cheap to do that and will make a big difference. |

Dear Planetside 2;
For once I have over overwhelmed with joy; 12 other blues fighting along side with me! We set forth to go on a grand adventure, the battles we would fight the fun we will have the fairness there would be.
But then my joy turned to sadness as the feelings and frustration I have known as being the lone new conglomerate guard of indar has now been bestowed upon one unlucky red player. For 2 hours he helplessly watched outpost after outpost in the 12 vs 1 onslaught unable to halt our advanced only dent it enough to be a marginal annoyance.
I try to console him but alas his frustration took hold and rage spewed forth in a declaration most adamant he was to retire and never return. GG Blueteam we made a red quit. Now we marched through empty base after empty base no resistance until the purples showed up numbering in the 50s and my merry band of 12 blues suddenly evaporated to my lonesome self.

Definitely, definitely get a better PSU. You really want a nice brand one- it'll really suck to discover one day that your cheap-o stock PSU has died and fried your expensive video card with it. I highly recommend Antec- they're affordable and their reliability is second to none.

But 500w seems oversized for a card with a tdp of 75w and a CPU that's probably not much more hungry. Running at 60% draw at most kills efficiency for little benefit so 400w should be enough.

Heh, but upgrading your PC is like crack. He'll install the new graphics card and want more, more, more! This provides upwards mobility. A good PSU will last long after the rest of your rig is obsolete.

I don't think its any different from the other 40 and 50 dollar PSU's i've found with the same wattage. Is it any different?

It's a matter of reliability- maybe the $20 one is great and lasts for years, or maybe it fries after a month and takes your computer with it. If you're willing to gamble to save a few bucks, you can go with the cheap option.
Personally, when I build a system, the PSU is the only part where I don't go for the cheapest possible option- I go with a well-known, reliable brand with a well-established warranty program.
I've had some bad experiences with cheap PSUs in case you couldn't tell, so I'm really wary of high-power low-cost outliers. PSUs are the one part of a computer that, when they fail, can cause significant damage to other components.
I trust: Antec, Corsair, Thermaltake, Cooler Master, in no particular order. Rosewill is a good middle-of-the-road option.
