As everyone who has been around for a while and those who haven't. I am very excited about 1.8 release. However I am very concerned on how things will be for weaponry and suits. Weapons in previous builds, like the Amarr, have continually been made useless, with the lack of balance. The new stats for the charge and assault scrambler rifles are taking a damage cut as all other weapons are. This looks good but this again is an issue for those wanting to use Amarr suits as apposed to the other variations. The Amarr suit has lower slotting count compared to its other counterparts, and rely's on the weapon and suit as a whole.Charge shot scrambler rifles already have issues with hitting targets, due to you having to charge the gun.Charging is what makes the gun unique and certainly no one wants that to go away, but its charging time is this weapons balance I would say. You can take the damage while charging, but if you land the shot it makes up for it.
Everything in its current state is only allowing one specific type of play depending on what you choose to use. This is usually done by mx matching suits, modules, and weapons. A good example is the use of the Caldari rail rifle. Their intended users are surpassed by combining the rail rifle, with a gallant suit, and the same goes for pretty much any other weapon paired with gallant suit frames. Why? Because of their lack of need for high slots, for shields.
CCP we need more RPG aspects to make this game interesting!Fitting penalties for those venturing outside of racial weapons as to how effective they can be with fitting certain modules, like damage mod penalties with rail rifles, and laser rifles.Penalties can be applied to Gallente and Minmitar players who wish to use the other two variant weapons, by giving negative attributes to damage modifiers. Penalties can also be applied vice versa to Gallente and Minmitar weapons, to those Amarr and Caldari players looking to mix weapons about. Things such as, armor plate health points deductions when paired with these weapons. Of course I don't think this is the only way to balance out things but I hope this can address the imbalance issues in the game. Though if similar though process is achieved for the game it will probably have players wanting to experience the other types of play styles, like being an Amarr, Caldari, Gallente, or Minmitar etc.
The nerf to damage mods sounds amazing, but why don't we have a hard limit to stacking penalties on damage modifiers? Too long has it been when just having a advanced weapon or above yields little to no reward if you do not have damage modifiers. If CCP can give a hard limit to damage modifiers Dust 514 probably will see less experienced players running around with blueprint weapons without the need of even using better weapons.
Why hasn't the sniper rifle been made to be light/scout frame only weapon? Just like a heavy with an HMG or Forge Gun, why is it medium and heavy frames can use such a long range weapon to dispatch players? The best thing about the scout is it always feels paper thin, with all of the precision enhancers, dampener modules, and a sniper rifle they are balanced. They can produce great damage, but also can be dispatched rather easily. With the damage mod nerf this class and weapon will be even more frustrating, despite having cloaking devices. It will be great for scouts to cloak and find nice places to use their sniper rifle before moving again, but if only one bullet does only so much damage that medium frames can handle the damage taken, giving no alarm, or high output leaving such a small fraction of health from head shots, the chances of getting a second shot fired off with many of the sniper rifles will be difficult. After all just as any gun in the game, the gun is still designed to kill clones in its designed style.
The good thing is the Laser Rifle is finally getting some love in regards of being able to compete with other light weapons, and the same goes for the mass driver. Though I am a little unsure if the buff to mass drivers again will yield old problems resurfacing. I would like to hear your thoughts CCP but if you don't even respond or have thoughts about these issues as we approach 1.8 please keep these things in mind!

As it happens, I find it difficult to read because of that.
Yes, though it was bigger than that, and I ended up cutting a lot of my opinions out! Many important things needed to be stressed! This is a good game compared to Dust 514 competition, and a good game in general. A lot of other games are experiencing similar problems with balance, even causing many to be delayed. To say CCP is not an Super gaming company like Square, Bandai/Namco, Ubisoft, Bethesda, etc. They are in the lead when it comes to addressing issues, and coming up with some type of plan to working on the problem. What I think hurts CCP with Dust is compared to other gaming companies, they do not have a plethora amount of resources like bigger gaming companies have, in getting game reviewers to say, "Hey Like My Game!" CCP is the underdog company that is changing gaming around just by the way they operate. I just want them to get things figured out better giving little doubt in what they do!

THEAMAZING POTHEAD wrote:The LR buff is irrelevant. The proficiency and damage mods nerfs are going to hit it FAR harder than the tiny non direct buffs. The problem is proficiency & damage mods were the life blood of the LR. And those tiny buffs can't possiblly make up for a potentially 46% damage nerf. I say 46% because 5 damage mods is 31%, prof 5 is 15%. Now the damage mods will almost never be run, because LOLdmgmods. And proficiency isnt worth the SP.
I know that personally if we get a respec I'll be only getting prof for the officer weapons. Racial damage as a bonus is garbage, ScRs already melt shields etc. They need the damage for the non effective HP type.
Mark my words, lasers WILL be garbage EVEN more than now.
Well said! Laser weapons need something else to give them their own competitive edge, like other weapons, and something extra for Amarr frame users! Any ideas?
