After looking at the new numbers for 1.8 I noticed something, almost every single rifle variant is does more damage than the AR, except for the Combat variants. I'm unsure if anyone else is worried, but if the AR's stats such as RoF, optimal&effective-range and others aren't adjusted in someway there wouldn't be any reason to use it.
I understand it's suppose to be the short gun of the ARs which is why it has it's high RoF, but that won't really matter if the others can outperform it at short range by simply doing more damage. I'm hoping some other stats are adjusted on so weapons to balance them out and to prevent some from becoming obsolete. |

I think apart from the ion pistol, most of the sidearms seem better than the AR. :) |

Over exaggeration. The differences are pretty much the same as they are now...
We do need some type of reason to use the AR over other weapons tho... B

You are 100% correct about that, but now the number gape between them is even greater and come 1.8 players will be looking for the best way to do the most damage possible to make up for the lost damage 1.8 will take. This shall cause a few new trends to take the spotlight, from what I can tell players will be looking for damage outside of Damage-mods. |

yes the smg magsec will have a greater rate of rife buts its range will be a lot less

CCP will introduce a new AR as soon as they are confident that everyone has SP-chased every other option. It will require a complete re-skilling, of course, but it will operate just above the current kings of rifles while they get slowly nerfed. Then, when everyone has skilled into the new rifles, they'll nerf them and introduce a new rifle and skill tree with it.
Start an alt, use no SP, grab a starter fit and join me in "no SP warriors" chat!
