start firing people. I've said this in 2 other posts already but I'm just going to create me own. When you're adding new content to a game you want to ensure that it is balanced, but when we look at Dust the core mechanics of the game have not been set in stone either which is why we see FotM builds. It is merely the illusion of choice that we have yet we only ever see a few true competitive builds. That does not make very good game play.
My recommendation would be to stop all current projects that are adding new content. No sense in adding new content if it is just going to further unbalance the game. Put all assets into remaking the core of the game. Even if this doesn't mean a monthly update so long as you keep your customer base involved it is easier to understand. Provide a weekly update on the rebalancing of the game. Listen to your players, not just the loud vocal minority since that won't balance the game just make it easier for them which is bad.
Set concrete deadlines for your staff. If they cannot keep to deadlines and schedules let them go. As a business if you do not listen to your customer base and change you will fail eventually. With so much time and money put into Dust now it would be a loss for the company to stop it at this point. Who ever your office manager is does not seem to be doing a very good job at this point in time. Soon(tm), "You know when we know" and other comments are terrible for business. You don't even know your own schedule on releases? Who do you have at the reigns? A monkey?
So to sum it up, pull your teams together. Balance the core mechanics of your game. Fix existing bugs. Set deadlines that must be met or those employees will be terminated. Provide better interaction with your customer base. Once you know what your main game is to be then you can add in new content. Like the cloaking, new dropsuits and vehicles. Don't do so before or you will just erode the baseline further making a future rebalance even harder to accomplish.
This is just my opinion in the matter. While I appreciate all the work that CCP has done and the game how it should be is fun. It needs a lot of work. Work that will require being the "bad guy" in enforcing deadlines and schedules. If anyone has read this thank you for getting to the end. And CCP I do hope you take these things to heart as I do greatly enjoy the lore and the universe that you developed and would hate to see it go away. |

CCP needs more employees and programmers working on the game. Errors in balance, most likely, occur as a result of looming deadlines and personnel being spread too thin. If they had the required long moments of reflection to think about what problems would arise from new balance implementations they would be better able to spot the issues that would emerge. They probably work deadline to deadline and barely have the chance to breathe.
Threats of termination will never garner the best work from your employees.
And while I agree that there is a significant lack of communication, a weekly report might be overkill. People just want to be kept abreast of the latest developments. The gamers are just passionate and that's why we have a dedicated little community. Maybe a general roadmap would help, but, admittedly, this "SoonTM" nonsense has to come to an end.
There needs to be a better job of communication and expectation management on the part of CCP, while also allowing information to trickle from them down through the community. Loosening the NDA of the CPM would be a good place to start, but we can't take away the joys of major announcements.

Oh my, now you have made a third post. What will CCP do? Also, I think CCP are only getting set back by PS3. The team is quite competent. What I don't like is that is isn't EVE enough.

Where's the thumps down button? Ftp and it gets my heart pumping. I was amazed when i started playing at what a small dev team can accomplish. They still amaze me.

Awesome suggestion OP, the dev team is really small as it is and they are actively hiring for quite a few positions. With that in mind I 100% agree that the best course of action is to fire the staff and just hope they can hire some more devs SoonGäó. Especially considering the PS3 is so easy to program for, I bet the next group could easily pick up where the original programmers left off. Just be sure to let them know that the moment they miss a deadline they are out, and that replacements are already actively being recruited, considering they intend to have about 1000% turnover per year.
Wow, this is all just pure brilliance. |

That's the problem. 10 years of eve gameplay being dumbed down and condensed by a small team.
Were back in 2006 because anyone from china working on this game has no experience with the cell in the ps3. Anyone else has to be flown in special order. how many competent devs want to fly to china to work on a free to play game that was poorly reviewed and has a small fanbase.
I'd wager not many unless the pay is excellent which brings up the question why start in china in the first place. So much is just missing or basically wrong based on how eve works. It's gonna take years for this game to perform like any other game on the ps3 as of 2013. And it'll be years behind other games at that point. |

You can add all the content you want to a game it doesn't make it any good. If you were to read the post it is about running a successful business. Not threats of termination looming over their heads. When you go to work if you don't meet corporate deadlines how long do you think you would be allowed in your position? Consistently not being able to fulfill those obligations. I for one would not have been allowed to keep my post. You build a successful team with those who can have the job. By putting you team in China what sort of attraction is that going to garner? The team is probably small for this reason. Which makes managing assets all the more important.
That is why I would be of the opinion to pull all your teams together and work on the biggest issues first. Frame rate, balancing and preexisting content. To merely say oh "It is free to play" as an excuse to justify poor choices is no excuse. They are a successful corporation with a small but dedicate fan base in Eve. How many years did it take the fan base to get CCP to go back and correct the balance issues that had been in the game since day 1? 2010-2011? And the game came out in 2003.
Nor is my post condemning any single action, but to go back to the bare bones and do the balance all over again. Others could come up with better suggestions about that balance.
@Hynox Xitio - So do you know how to read? It is not about adding new content. It's about ensuring current content is balanced. Then when the inevitable complaining about what happens in 1.8 starts you and the 11 others that liked your post won't complain about balance? Won't pick apart details of what they had done, right? After all it is new content, regardless if it is good or not. I will ensure I look around for your posts post-1.8. |
