Currently installation users are vulnerable to both direct physical damage, and death from destruction of the installation (indirect damage). Reasonably, they should only be vulnerable to one or the other.
If players are to be vulnerable to direct damage because they're standing outside the installation operating it, then they shouldn't die when the installation is destroyed, because they're standing outside it.
If players are to be vulnerable to indirect damage through destruction of the installation because they're inside it, then they shouldn't be vulnerable to small arms fire, because they're inside it.
It should be one way or the other, not both. Suffering from the vulnerabilities of both infantry and vehicles while additionally being a stationary target is not a good balance.

It annihilates infantry and tanks, and leaves you with the ability to ditch it and use your proto to kill anyone who actually snuck up on you. You want to remove the only vulnerability they have. Did you learn nothing from the tank buff?
If you hear the words "WORTH IT!" look about, something hilarious just happened.

You appear to be talking about tanks, not installations. The main vulnerability of turret installations is that they are stationary.
I'm looking for consistency in application. Currently installation users are subject to direct damage as a ground unit, as well as indirect damage as a vehicle unit, while standing outside of the installation. My preference would be that users of an installation remain outside the turret and vulnerable to small arms fire, but do not get insta-popped by the turret being destroyed.
