u do realize SMG's usually have more then 1 fire mode, right .... and knowing CCP, they may have differ variants, as almost any weapon they release has at least 2 types (aside from the laser rifle)

Hmm...i saw a note earlier from someone who claimed the Dev's said the MagSec operation skill would lower the spool time to increase it's CQC effectiveness. Anyone else see/heard this?

I worry a bit about the Bolt Pistol however...

DPS=337.4(150/60*135)
High Alpha and Moderate ROF plus Long Range= A bit like the RR only in the sidearm class.
Still gonna spec into it and hope they don't smash it into the ground, but Its kinda thought provoking.

I think the advantage of the at will be it's damage type. 10% against shields will be important with the cal heavy and scout and min heavy. I imagine the magsec will be at a disadvantage going up against shield suits, similar to the rail rifle. Now if they buffed regulators so proper shield tanking is viable then you will see less hybrid tanked shield suits and anti shield weaponry will have more of an advantage. Not saying I'm right but its something to consider. |

Well at least for the RR the slightly lower DPS and Spool up time is easily compensated by the tighter hip fire. I guess the same will be true for the MagSec. Regarding the damage type as most seem to favor armor these days the damage type is a plus for the MagSec. |

I am going to run magsec smg with a mass driver/flaylock and a complex sidearm modifier. At proto level and a damage mod a magsec can output the damage dps as a duvolle without damage mods.

Sure that's true but 0.05 secs really not worth to mention. But I think the tighter hipfire paired with a good sight will make the difference, may be the MagSec won't be more powerful compared to the AR but its performance will be pretty close and the MagSec is just a sidearm. So with MagSec we will have a sidearm that provides nearly the same power AND range than a primary weapon.
The last time this happens was when CCP introduced the original flaylock that was able to compete with the MD and at some point CCP realized they made a mistake and nerfed the Flaylock (ok they overnerfed the flaylock). But even this experience did not prevent them to make the same mistake again.... |

I have no problem with it being better at CQC its a SMG but the thing is it will compete withe the AR pretty close on ALL ranges AND will make the SMG pointless

Lower fire rate but tighter hipfire (at least chances are good that this will be the case) so more shots will hit. Currently nearly every one is armor tanking to compensate low TTK and lack of tactical sense so the MagSec damage profile will be more of a plus than a minus.
Look the std AR will still outperform the MagSec in some way but not to an extend that is justified if you compare a Sidearm to a primary weappon. And the breach AR will be clearly inferior to the MagSec.
I don't say the MagSec will be better in every aspect compared to the AR BUT it will be too close for a sidearm and this is a bad concept that further devalues the AR as primary weapon. The Ar is currently the worst of all Assault rifles and now even a Sidearm will be a severe competitor...CCP could as well removes the AR from the game (alongside with some other weapons that are close to useless) |

SMG does 383 DPS at standard level. So the MagSec only beats it by 2 DPS, but that means it beats the normal SMG at all ranges.
Now... what can't you do with the MagSec that you can do with the SMG?
Swap it out in the middle of a gunfight when your magazine runs empty and start firing immediately. (0.3s charge-up time is pretty long in CQC situations.) But not everyone does this already anyway, most simply run around a corner while reloading.

The RR has shown that tighter hipfire (more shots hit) is way better than higher RoF. So I highly doubt the SMG will do good against the MagSec in CQC on a regular base not to mention the MagSec fires at AR ranges...
