I live in Latvia, country which has tasted Russia's occupation for 50 long years. Latvians are not Slavic and were occupied so I should naturally be siding with Ukrainians who want to be independent from Russia. But honestly - the whole uprising in Ukraine was excessively violent and I understand Russia when they want to protect Crimea. I also understand that it is partly Putin wanting to show power but until so far they have done it very calmly.
PS. I was a big opponent of Russia invading Georgia.
Russia is more peaceful than USA. Fact.

The problem is Putin, it is difficult to be free when an iron fist holds you down. I live in America and my Ukrainian friends feel very similarly, couple of dudes I know were upset at the violence but then a few others said it was justified to show that Ukraine wasn't a Russian pawn. My friend in Moscow named both of his children after my mom and was just over here about 5 months ago, he wasn't too happy with Putin but he can't really do anything because he is afraid to say anything. It is a sad state of affairs over there. Good luck, because I know it isn't easy.
All I hope is that they don't invade the Baltic. Russia hates those US anti Nuke missiles in Lithuania. I think the Baltic states should be neutral but we tried that before ww2 for all the good it did us. Russia got booted out of Latvia twice but the russians themselves have sticked around. I have no problems with russians, except the fact that they tried to make Russian the second national language here. Russian political parties get funding from Kremlins. It is a sad state of affairs indeed.
Russia is more peaceful than USA. Fact.
