Can I just say that having the amarr assault bonus being 5% reduction to heat build-up actually hurts the laser rifle. Since the laser rifle puts out its maximum damage when it reaches it max heat, having the suit reduce its heat build-up time means it takes longer for it to reach that point. I don't think the suit should have this bonus, it forces the player into the scrambler rifle which isn't that bad but having an actual functioning laser rifle would make it a lot better. I'm not sure what could replace it, so what do you think should replace the Amarr assault bonus? It's definitely something that needs to change in 1.8 update.

It's my understanding that the LR's damage is based on continuous rounds fired, not heat build up (which is why you can't pulse the LR at nearly max heat for a super-powerful LR), which makes the bonus actually rather nice for the LR. |

Its not the heat that makes it do more damage, but the duration of the fire. It only appears that the heat effects damage because both heat and damage are determined by duration of firing.

You sure about that? Any source to back up that damage is based on % heat?
Cause I have always been under the impression that damage ramp was 'per unit time' and thus the laser rifle was able to achieve a higher max damage on the amarr assault than other suits. Same on the higher metas in the new patch, decreased heat cost should = higher maximum output. |

Hmm I thought it would be based on it heat build-up, cause that would actually make sense.

The overheat bonus means you can fire longer without overheating and receiving feedback damage.

I thought the Laser's damage was based on how long you fire it for...so if you could fire it forever you could eventually one shot 1000+ Armor Heavies.
Sounds like my kind of gun.

No it doesn't it means we can fire longer at full heat capacity.

Laser rifle dmg = 17 * ( 0.6 * number of shots fired consecutively)
Going from 60 shots to 80 shots out of 100 increases total damage dealt by *hundreds* of points. The bonus is insanely good on the suppression style gameplay of the laser rifle. |

Yep, this one hurt my head too. I was planning on putting out a little LR guide in the rookie section but I'm still waiting for that dev blog (perhaps Wolfman needs a full moon before he can do it) before I post it. Looks like it's still needed.
The Amarr assault bonus is hugely useful for the LR, trust me. Damage is equal to how long you fire it, not the heat, otherwise you would never want to let it cool down completely and would just keep burst firing it at the upper end of the heat gauge.

Okay, I thought it was based on the heat gauge. Well, that answered my question and thanks to all who helped me understand that, it definitely changes how I'm going to battle.

It's gonna change more with the heat reduction buff on higher tiers. With the proto assault suit and a proto laser rifle you may be able to fire almost the whole clip without overheating.

Yeah this was actually answered a long time ago by the devs. Easy to get confused though. However if you were running in battle and trying to burst-fire the laser rifle as close to overheating as possible then you were just wasting your time

Incorrect but close.
Laser rifle dmg = 17 + ( 0.6 * number of shots fired consecutively)
So going from 60 to 80 increases total damage dealt per "bullet" by *12* points. |
