The title says it all. Generally, it is standard for games, especially MMOs, that have an extended beta phase, to see a full reset of player progress when the game is launched for real. Why did Dust not follow this industry convention? |

Also, has Dust launched for real?

This
It was reset after closed beta (pained my soul). There was then Open Beta, and the live date was 5/14/13.
I could list the ways how we Amarr are better than you, but your lesser mind wouldn't comprehend it.

I'd say because January last year Dust was connected to Tranquility for the first time and Tranquility is the real deal with New Eden, what happens happens.
Also I know technically January 2013 - May 13th 2013 was "open beta" and May 14th, 2013 was the launch, but what really changed? Beyond the arbitrary names, nothing. Dust is still getting constantly updated to fix stuff, improve stuff, and add stuff. So for all practical purposes you can consider January 2013 the real "launch" of Dust 514, and there was nothing stopping anyone from joining in back then.
Mail me in game if interested in learning about the Amarr Empire and serving them in Faction Warfare.

It was an open beta, and people who were playing in the beta didn't want to lose their SP. If I had lost all my SP at the end of open beta I probably would have just left the game. Not entirely sure, but I didn't want to go through that grind again. |

I see. I was just curious, after hearing about the great CCP salvage buy-out and the respec in May. I didn't get a PS3 until June so none of it affected me. |

real money cash shop mostly
everyone was given the option to reset their chars for full aurum refunds, i think some took them up on the offer.
honestly the "Release" of the game was arbitrary even now we're still testing their beta, imo the official "release" of the game masy as well of been when they went open beta |

After the last reset the game entered open beta, and everyone could get in and play, so its not like we had an unfair advantage from SP acquired in open beta because everyone could have also done the same. As for why not, the game had become connected to EVE, and effecting FW, etc, so I guess in a way it sort of already launched.
