how hard is it to get used to the lowered hp cause im used to taking a beating before i go down but with a scout even low tier weapons can rip through your hp. so if not the hp difference then whats the hardest part of the switch.
im skilling into scout as my second role for 1.8

im skilling into scout as my second role for 1.8 Its hard, use kincats, run and jump before you get in the open when in cover to shoot and enemymin cqc, sometimes its better to jump or strafe.

Playing smarter is one of the hardest things people have to get used to when they play scout. Granted it's much easier and better to play with proto gear and complex equipment, but even a milita scout can do as well as a proto scout if he's smarter.

TBH I haven't found it very difficult since I'm used to trying to take on proto-geared slayers in basic gear or speed-fit advanced gear- the scout is certainly more fragile, but the same principle applies: head-on fighting is just not going to go your way. The best tool you have at your disposal to help with this is the passive scanner, which, crucially, shows the direction your enemy is facing. The moment they turn away from the corner you're hiding behind, you can just pop out and start blasting. If they turn on you too quickly, you just retreat, wait for your shield to regen, then repeat the process until you've whittled them down for the kill.
To me the hardest part of learning to scout has been optimizing my fits for a tiny slot count and low CPU/PG. Logis made me spoiled. |

fit up a scout and find out. it isn't an easy transition, in fact for me it was a living hell. the scout is difficult to get used too in general because you can do everything right and still fail.
1. your kill count and KDr will drop like a stone, get okay with that. 2. there will be matches that you go 0/6 on simply cause the enemy have proto scanners 3. there will be times when the battle isn't "right" for a scout 4. your gun game will be all that can save you

You have to agree though that once you get into the habits, your KD gets dramatically better, my K/D is skyrocketing (for all time) and my monthly K/D is about 3.5 which makes me see the greatness/success in being a scout. You also begin to enjoy being a scout (IMO) and generally makes you a better player. Being a scout also makes you multifaceted to counter different types of players. For example:
I have 5 suits I primarily use. They are divided into categories of shotgun v. CR.
My shotgun variations are between proto and adv. gear, and the same applies to the CR. I run my SG with an SMG and my CR with NK. My weapons are complementary and provide me with as much versatility as possible. Of course it's up to you how you want to play, but when you're running generic fits, you will want to counter as much as possible. I predict that at the rate I'm going, my K/D will be even greater than it is currently, (can't wait for 1.8). #thatCloak

2 enhanced dampeners will get you under a proto scanner, and unless you are running a proto suit, you have no speed boost, no armor reps, no stamina boost, no extra armor, no range enhancers. Its a lot of sacrifice for. I run std gninja with a reactive plate (for the reps + a tiny bit o armor) range enhancers. I have scout suit level 4 and profile dampening level 3, (that will get you under vehicle scans with running a dampener, which are more common lately than handheld scanners).
Its a rough road, I have gone 18/2 and 1/10 (last night). It depends on where you spawn and how you play. And the people you are playing against. Smarts and gear. I can't go back though, even with my sprint at 8.01 without enhancers, I could never go back to a slow A$$ medium.
I have also turned the game around though. Deployed uplinks, held points alone, set RE traps. High risk, high reward. I would recommend running std until you have about 40 hours experience though, or you will be throwing money away. |

It takes some getting used to for sure. I still have a much too aggressive playstyle, it will take some time to beat it out of me.

Pretty much this, but the transition wasn't as bad as it seems to others because I made the jump early, and the difference in hp I was used to wasn't very large nor a big deal considering what I was getting in return, speed + plus better early warning, and varying degrees of anonymity.
The biggest hurdle I can say that I experienced was learning to only fight on your own terms, as dumb as that may sound. Was too used to walking into fights at a disadvantage and coming out top dog, as a scout that will rarely happen. If the odds are against you don't hold your ground.

Best advice is to expect lose any and all gunfights, then work from there. I run an advanced Gallente scout suit with two complex dampeners and lv.5 dampening; I have low EHP and absolutely zero armor rep. Knowing this, I rely on catching the enemy unaware and killing them with one or two shotgun blasts from behind. For heavies/groups I rely on my remote explosives and will attempt to "lure" them into place by having them chase me around corners/structures where I've placed my REs ahead of time. A LOT of players will forget their objective and chase after the easy kill when given the chance.
Also, have at least one fitting with either kin cats or regulators paired up with an uplink (preferably one that allows you to place at least two at a time) and use this suit to get into contested-areas ahead of the enemy to give your team a base from which to work with. Then find the nearest supply depot and swap to a more combat-oriented build and enjoy those free WPs!
Life is killing me.

One of the great things about being a scout is that its very easy to make a cheap fit that can pretty much do the same as a more advanced frame. Perfect for when the teams are stacked against you as you can still make an impact.
In terms of combat its all about positioning yourself to gain the highest advantage. Combined with a good weapon selection you can make engagements very short and decisive.
Sometimes though there is simply nothing you can do. Your going to get caught out sooner or later and go down before you even realise you've been spotted. There's lots you can do to prevent it but ultimately there's a lot of luck involved - it only takes one guy to turn at the wrong moment and your plan is ruined. Map design plays a huge part to it as well.

Level 4 scout suit and level 3 dampening puts you under 35db (vehicle scanners) without stacking modules... You can beat a proto scanner (28 db) even in a basic suit using one ehn damp.
That's amazing! "Scan attempt prevented" = <3
The thing I like the most is that even vs SuperProtoDevils you have the chance to take' em down just because they "can't see you"... yes, you're gonna die a lot but you're gonna bring them with you
My scout suit has 1/3 of the ehp of my first Char, a dual tanked Callogi.. (still in adv, 700 ehp)
Is playing in my scout suit hard? yes
Is playing in my scout suit satysfying? **** YEAH!

For me it was a little hard at first, you definitely have to play smarter, but I found that when I got my suit skill and scan enhancement both up to 3 that I started to do really well. You have to take advantage of the fact that most suits you can see on your HUD and they can't see you. I try to never attack anyone from up front (unless I have them at a distance with my CR) and I never try to go after more than a pair of enemies together unless I know they are already engaged with other teammates.
Like others have said in this thread, once I started playing scout it made me better at playing an assault too, just because playing a scout makes you have to play the game smarter. At the same time when I switch back to assault I really miss the speed and seeing where the enemy is on my HUD
Most tankers are like sand people. They frighten easily, but will quickly return...and in greater numbers.

I made the switch extremely early...day 1 lol.
1. Yup, scouts and death have tea parties mid-match. Death will literarily stop mid sentence after we have respawned and just wait a few seconds. "Welcome back" 2. Vary rare lately, plus I have an effective stealth fit that can handle such matches. 3. The best thing about being a long-term scout is that you are able to adjust to those fights that are not "right" for scouts (although they are still hard and very frustrating) 4. Yup, sometimes the best strategy a scout has is to just pull the trigger! If you have no gun game then you might as well be a heavy or tanker.
Final Thoughts: Anyone wanting to become a scout had better be prepared to run through hell! But hey! Those with potential will enjoy the ride.

but now what im wondering is even though ccp said you have to decloak before you can shoot your weapon but does that count for throwing grenades too

From past experience it was "somewhat" difficult playing as a scout, but then again, I speced into Gallente Scouts as soon as I started playing Dust. Although if you are used to to other suits in Dust, the transition will not be as easy.
Basics
Now of course, you need to play extremely smart, as flanking plays a huge role. Often times you'll be forced to strike hard and fast and you're gun game Will come into play, so high Alpha and DPS guns and equipment like the Combat Rifle, Shotgun, and RE's will greatly increase you're survivability. Combat wise, You'll need to get used to taking the least expected route, often out flanking you're opponents. Looking at skills, you will want you're Scout at level 5 ideally, along with max passive scanning range, dampening, and core biotics. Also if you're looking at long term longevity, you'll absolutely want any type of armour rep
What I usually Run (Slayer Scout|10K a Pop)
Suit: Scout G-1 Weapon/s: Basic Combat Rifle with recruit SMG Lows: Basic Reactive plate (1/HP's, 25+ HP) and a enhanced Range amplifier Highs: basic precision enhancer Equipment: Remote Explosives
Hope this helps!!!
