AR isn't bad. Duvolles still tear me to shreds sometimes. It is just being overshadowed by the CR and RR. Let them get balanced and the AR will shine again.

The AR is amazing right now. Engage while in your optimal range and while not exposed and it melts people.
Forge Changes needed Officer Splash 3.0, Proto 2.7 Advanced 2.5 Standard 2.1.
Original ROF needs to return!

In terms of damage it sounds like all the main assault weapons are having their DPS nerfed to adjust TTK, maybe that means the AR will be nerfed a bit less than the RR or CR(or SCR?).
The LR is getting some intelligent attention to it's fallof profile and overheat chatacteristics, imo there's reason to hope the AR will too, but i have no sources, just wild speculation ;)

Assault Rifles are essentially a rail rifle that shoots magnetic containment bottles of plasma. Source. Keep in mind that Caldari and Gallente shared a lot of technology before the war.

That described the Shotgun, Plasma Cannon, and Ion Pistol. You canGÇÖt get enough range for an Infantry Rifle firing live Plasma in the atmosphere. Therefore they have to use the containment bottles for the Assault Rifle rounds.

i can still do well with my ar.
mainly my gek though.
just cant get into range of rail rifle or cr and sometimes a scrambler rifle. usually end up dead there against those long ranged campers.
not to mention how fast they melt a heavy suit. with hmg.
sometimes requires a tank just to counter.

I can only assume this means RR and CR. Possibly ScR?
If the other rifles get nerfed a tad, but the AR stays where it is, it'd be an effective buff. So there's some glimmer of hope on the horizon.

It will nerfed less than the other rifles, that will be a sufficient amount of love, is still overpowered right now, just not in comparison to the other rifles.

anyways, the AR and CR are supposed to have the same range and operate in the same area, just with different damage profieles and firing modes.
so, when the CR gets nerfed the AR will get nerfed by an amount that willl balance it with the CR.

It has a longer range than the assault rifle and does vastly more DPS.

I have over a mil in ARs - I've strayed away from it towards sidearms and shotguns. Even if they are improved in 1.8 - they are never going to be like what they used to (which is a good thing) - if we were to get a weapons respec I'd personally abandoned rifles all together.
I'd argue that ARs don't need buffing, they just need to balance the other rifles so that the AR is the relatively best rifle for CQC-mid range.
You probably don't know me. But next time you get gunned down or exploded by a Valor scout...check the name.

Railguns fire slugs, these slugs so damn fast the atmosphere blue shifts around it and creates a electromagnetic charge on the slug, this is why the railgun typically hitts for such a high alpha.
The blaster fires PURE plasma that is contained within an electrostatic containment field, the field is so strong it acts similarly to a projectile upon impact. This gives it lower penalty to armour.
