Hello Rookies!!
When I get back home this morning I'm going to begin a recording a set of tutorials for DUST514. Now I'v been playing dust for nearly a year now and have no idea how a new player thinks, even going in with a new toon I have the knowledge of a years playing.
So I need your help! What would you like to see in a video? Im talking details right down to the letter if you need it.

How about preparing them for the initial exposure to the grinder. Let them know they will die a lot and to not be discouraged. Then introduce them to the skills system and how careful planning will make them better mercs, with examples. Also explain how play style will affect there skill choices with examples of each style from scout to tanker. And choice of race. Which to choose and why. I believe each has a different selection of starter fits so that could affect play style too. Then explain that if they think they've made a mistake in their first char, there are two other characters and how to use alts to experiment and learn.
Then another tut that what would be helpful is explaining what EVERY weapon does and who would use them and when. Same for dropsuits.
And how about one to help with PLAYER skill. DS3 vs KBM. I'm still fighting with that one.
That's what I would have liked to have seen a month ago anyway. |

Long way to get to my point but stick with me.... My wife( oh yeah Im lucky!) loved to play TF2 but it kinda died on PS3. Being an old mmorpg player I still get EVE news letters and saw mentions of Dust and got her to download it. I got hooked on this game while watching her play it. It was better than watching football haha! Hooked enough to pick up my own PS3 for the express reason of playing this game.
Now for the important part in reference to your post.... be sure and stress that they will die... A LOT. That is part of the game. Dying. Many times over and over and over...drill that point home. Especially for a total nooberry like me. Im a complete FPS noob and this is something that is hard to deal with sometimes. BUT, I have started to notice a difference in my skill level as I get closer to 2 mil skill points. Its frustrating to get proto stomped but, theres no avoiding it. Stick it out. You will get better. Do your best to stress that to the noobs.
Do not rage quit....ignore the k/d ratio for the time being and finish every match. Its pretty easy to figure out if youre gonna get proto stomped in a match. Once you make that determination switch to a starter suit you like and just ride it out so that it doesnt cost you any more isk that it needs to. You will earn isk and skill points whether you win or loose. STICK IT OUT for the pay off. |

Not a rookie, but I want to say the fact that you recognize that you no longer think like a new player is commendable, and a huge factor that i feel the majority of veteran and long term players overlook. Good on you.

Not a rookie, but there are some important tips for the newbies.
I know this works with the AR and SMG, but you've only got a few seconds/rounds of firing before the dispersion gets big (can't remember how much) My general rule of thumb is to shoot in 10 round bursts with those two weapons.
Tactics and flanking.
A general skill planner, I think Fox has one, and this has been talked about lots, so should be easy to find/link to.
They may want to create a few characters to get used to the skills and decide what they want to skill into in the short term. I'd emphasize that it'll take quite some time to get skilled up. While everyone will do things differently, I've been playing for about a year, I've been using boosters intermittently, and I've only NOW got to the point where I am debating what my first proto scout suit should be. I'm STILL debating on what weapon setup I want to run for it.
I'd also add that this is an ever changing dynamic game. Expect people to come up with weird crazy stunts that'll change how people think about weapons/tactics. Stress teamwork.
Also, you might want to touch on corps just a little bit. Mostly the importance of finding a good corp.
And lastly, get to know the maps. There are some maps where I just plain do things differently or something I normally wouldn't do, either because I don't trust other people to do them or because my team will win a huge advantage if we do things a certain way. |

EDIT: Iv decided that I'm going to hold off until 1.8, it's not to far off and with as many changes as promised to come with it, would be pointless to create a tutorial that's only going to be outdated in a week or so!
A vehicle tutorial. I have called in 3 so far but they keep exploding before they land. It strikes me as odd. Is there a Safe deployment zone? This red area has been breached.

Can you re assign skills you've used?
- No. There is speculation that a respect of skill points will be available when 1.8 releases but nothing has been confirmed yet. CCP has also floated the idea of a respect that could be purchased with AURUM, but that is just an idea at this time.
Why am I in an organization?
- Every character has to be a member of a corporation. When you start a new character, he/she is added to a NPC corporation.

Awesome thanks. So nobody will really be in that organization to help me out huh? I've played maybe 15 matches and it seems like I haven't seen anyone else. |

NPC corps (like Krullefor) are supposed to be temporary until you find a corp you like. I would suggest looking up dust university or some other training corp, look around the forums there's a couple, you will find a lot of people willing to help you in them.
If your character is less than a day old and you spent your skill points unwisely, you should start a new one and transfer passive skill ponts to the new one, right now you won't really lose anything, and don't spend skill points until you fully understand the implications |

This is all awesome! Very good help!
The first video, soon to be out, will be, "An Introduction to DUST". Its going to go over the very (VERY) basics. Like what dust is about. And why K/DR isn't as important as people think in a sandbox. And ill be putting emphasis on things like joining a corp and explaining a bit more about the grind.
Decided that something about the core concept of Dust doesn't need to hold of till 1.8. Putting some edits in then I'll be releasing a draft to you (in case things are amiss) before its made public.
