Let me start by saying, I don't think CCP should do away with events just because I don't enjoy them. I'm just wondering if I'm all alone in this, or if there is a silent minority that feels the same.
The way it appears to me, these bonus SP events are really aimed at veteran players as an incentive to actually play that week. The upside is, this gives vets a way to boost SP, since it takes ever-increasing amounts just to see incremental gains at higher tiers.
Enter the low SP player, this seems like a great deal for them as well right? They have the chance at accelerated SP gains, thereby becoming more competitive.
The problem I see with this is that in practice, new players have LESS of a chance during these events. By piquing the interest of players with higher tier equipment, you incentivise the use of proto gear as a means to maximize gains. This just widens the gap between low SP players who can't field higher tier items, and higher SP players who feel it necessary to field proto in order to get the most out of the event.
And I think anyone who has been here more than a month has probably had an encounter with a new player who has decided to leave the game due to the TTK and disparity in survivability.
Just wondering if anyone else feels the same about these events?
Not new, just new to you.

You are not alone, but i have other things about events. I basicaly dont think its a good idea to make event, if i basicaly dont have finished game. Fot me its just a plaster, what should hide a problem from community eyes. Nothing less or more.

The events could also be a way of gathering data on specific things by incentivising their use.

I wish we had events like Caldari Prime.
Now that was an event.
I hate that people like to look at triple SP weeks and go "see see? They won't refund any SP because Events"
And all I get from that is, again, DUST is best played by not playing it. Don't spend your SP because not only will things receive balance passes, they'll get complete random overhauls. So, instead of playing what you like, just play garbage and when CCP pulls their head out of their collective asses, you come out on top.
That mentality is poison

I believe you have a point to you're post, but would you rather they not release any events that make the game interesting by making people play a variety of roles? Honestly I think the majority of the problem is largely how CCP chooses to integrate new players into Dust, which is currently lacking in several areas.
thats just my opinion thought

I hate them; mainly because ppl slam snipers for just wanting kills then turn around and strap on a heavy suit and an HMG just to get kills. For some reason, an event makes it ok.
And also, ppl who call snipers and tanks cowards see no hypocrisy with heavy suits and HMG.

Event's highlighting one class? Nah not a huge fan...
Do they help CCP understand the balance of that class when used this heavily? Probably...
The Event where we had a Burning Titan come crashing down onto Caldari Prime... then had Burning wreckage all through the battlefields.. and a giant 7km long Leviathan Titan super structure sticking out of the ground burning in the background...
Progressing of the EVE and DUST side LORE... by event's that Both Capsuleer's can be apart of in space and Mercenaries can participate on the ground is Where Event's in DUST really take meaning and shape...
And do nothing but add to the experience and memories made.

But yes, the one thing I love/hate about events is that they encourage you to get out of your comfort zone. Love it because everyone should see the other side of the fence occasionally. Hate it when someone in a mlt Heavy w/Auram HMG, kills my adv Heavy alt.

To be honest the community team aren't the makers of the game, they are here to try and keep us engaged anyway they can, which in the game's current state (unfinished), it's really hard to maximise variety in a game with such issues so I think they do their best. Personally, this event was one of the least interesting since you can't see the incremental process (ie. what your current even progress is), and I don't really have a good heavy suit (forge gunner aside). I think it's also because it's been so long since the last content update (December) and a virtual absence of communication on where the game is going, the game feels a bit stale.
Problems aside, I think they also have their hands tied by what they can and cannot do during events. I think a "choose your own" reward event is always the best, since you play for something that you need. Of course everyone needs SP, but I think a player who always plays with a HMG isn't going to feel that this is an "event". The true "event" for me was when I logged in to manus peak and saw burning pieces of a titan scattered across the battlefield and could see a burning piece of it's hull in the distance. Sure there were no rewards, but I felt that this was something special.
Other than that... I just prefer the extended cap weeks... the triple SP week was the best... that's when your "passive" battle SP was tripled too.... boy did everyone rake in the SP that week. |

Because the guy running into the middle of everyone's bullets is a coward...
I suppose I'm a coward because I use my scout suit to flank the enemy position and kill them all with Nova Knives too.
Just because you have more health doesn't mean you're invincible. Heavies go down very easily unless they have a logi or two with proto rep tools humping their legs. Sitting in the redline sniping isn't the same thing in any regards as running into the middle of a bunch of enemies with a bit more health and an HMG.
Sometimes I miss never seeing tanks in a battle... then I remember the mystical flying soma, and I can't help but smile.
