People talk about the rifles being OP but honestly, compared to what?
Shotguns are fine in their range. Perhaps th gap between std and pro is too high, button he i close with a shotty and you win.
Hmg are fine. Use the assault for added range and melt faces.
Snipers are fine. Use the tact if you can't get headshots and land 3 quick bodies for a kill.
Forge are in a good spot and used to be OP. they can still wreck havoc on infantry from high ground, just not as easily.
Sidearms? Smg is decent and can hold its own in its range and scp is the best gun in the game in skilled hands.
MD and flaylock are a little up but you need to be careful cause if you reach a high enough threshold of folks using aoe weapons they can just destroy
LR is a little UP too but if it gets boosted it'll just play like the other rifles but with the super deadly preheat.
Obviously installations and turrets aren't UP compared to rifles.
RE are more deadly than rifles. Nades are fine too.
So when people complain about the rifles.. What weapons do they want to see more effective? Just the LR and the splash weapons? |

It's not that I want to see weapons become more effective (more or less), it's just that I want to see the rifles less effective.
These hitscan, mid-long range, tracking (with AA) weapons that have the TTK of a drunkard going 110km/h on an expressway with gasoline barrels needs to be nerfed.

It has an optimal range of like 45m
And it'll win a 1on1 at that range. It loses to other hmg inside but that's a small price to pay for the extra range
And yes the gap between std and proto shotty is bigger than other guns in regards to damage. Most guns add 2-5 damage from std to proto. I believe the shotty adds quite a bit. |

*sigh* And what is the ROF of these guns to which proto adds 2-5 damage? Proto for all AI light weapons is 10% higher damage.

Right 10% on guns that kill in less than 10 bullets. How many shots does this actually impact? 1? You kill 1 shot quicker? The real power of proto rifles is the optimal range increase. Not the damage. Use a cbr at 70 m and you'll be at 30 effectiveness, use the boundless and you'll be at 100. The reason proto rifles seem so much better is because a ton of fights take place between 40-80 m. Right where range alters the damage a ton depending on the gun. |

Never said LR was fine, at all. Just that the LR mechanic is pretty much identical to the other med range hitscan. So getting it into balance just adds another OP rifle that folks would complain about.
Snipe and shotty are fine. Do you lose a fight CQ with shotties? If so... How? I easily kill all sorts of folks with the Tactical sniper. You can fire off 3 shots so quick and take out everything but heavies.
Splash weapons and LR are legit pointless right now. But every other gun has a good role and situation to use them in. And I figure MD would currently be good in groups, just requires teamwork and tons of assists. But if you make it viable solo then it becomes OP in bunches.
Flaylocks should be better. PLC needs quicker weapon switch and maybe a bit more direct damage so it ohk heavies. But that's 3 weapons. None of which are too far away from being decent. With splash weapons it makes sense to error on he side of caution as OP splash spam is the least fun fps |

Not only do the "rifles" excel in their effective and optimum ranges with no peer, they are still extremely effective in almost every other situation, more so in a few situations against niche weapons specifically designed to dominate in.
A weapon far exceeding the capabilities it's designated to have, while also having absolutely no drawbacks, is what people would consider OP. |

See these weapons don't win in the other weapons niche. Ill maybe grant you the RR range is a bit much and makes it harder to keep others in the niche range, perhaps a bit too much. But back in the day after the SS nerf everyone bitched about how thier weapons couldn't kill at any range and that got changed.
And even the rail is only a huge problem at proto where it has 100+ m range. Std and Adv RR are a bit lower which I find I can still navigat around. The only time I feel an area is pretty much off limits is with proto rails. |

That bolded part doesn't make you think its more powerful then it should be?
Mind you, the RR is just a reworked version of the AR with longer range and higher DPS.
That means we've had these OP AR's well before the new rifles came into play, only now there's an even worse one.
I'm all for weapons dominating in their intended ranges, but **** man, i expect a drawback to providing such a large amount of punishment.
Edit - Somehow i missed the first part. Hell yea those weapons can win against others in their niche. I remember after they nerfed the HMG's range a few months ago so harshly, the AR dominated in CQC. Rifles now do more damage then an MD can, even if he was firing the projectiles into a full squad, why do you think there are rarely any MD's being used? Hell, even the LR can't compete unless its at its highest damage threshold. |

Shotguns can miss too easy in their optimal range, sniper rifles apparently are harder to kill with, Laser Rifle is ass, Mass Driver is ass, Nova Knives can be improved upon...The HMG isn't that bad from what I see.
But yeah the majority of weapons need some type of fixin'.

Md is a different story. Because you have to be wary of a threshold where suddenly a squad of MD users jut kill anything near them with focused fire. It may be a little UP now, but not by much. And it being OP is much more game breaking than Op rifles.
Ill agree the Lr needs some help. It has a small role with preheating and killing dudes on rooftops but the Scr headshot works almost as well. |

I know the HMG's got fixed man, I'm just saying...Rifles have been too effective in almost every situation since the start of the game.
Adding a new rifle that not only has can shoot further, and provide more DPS then the gun that was already OP to begin with, was a dumb move (or smart move for new player retention and snagging returning players, depending on how you wanna look at it).
RR needed to get toned down, even if most of the other weapons weren't getting nerfed along with it in an attempt to lower TTK. It's just too much of a beast. Same with that damned CR. |

ok the RR and CR are consdered op because they are "too strong in un optimal range ie RR win in cqc over SG (both medium dropsuits)
and as ive said b4 the RR/CR spam isnt nearly as bad as the AR spam back in the day and isnt nearly as OP as the AR was i hated tht **** so much
oh and the nerf on explosives are too much locus gernades need t be moar powerful and so do MD /Flaylock

I honestly use pretty much every weapon. Probably Scr and cbr the most. But I rock dual pistols, shotty, sniper, forge, hmg and occasional rail rifle too. He'll I even have a plasma launcher build I use for Dom on that one CQ underground map(though re has trumped that build)
I have adv or higher in all these. Only proto in cbr cause I came back for 1.7 and had a ton of sp (oh and proto forge)
I honestly feel eqch weapon works well and my k/d is about the same no matter what playstyle I use. With shotties I do more but I kill more. With rails I don't die much but I don't kill as muh and def don't disrupt the enemy as much. Cbr is amazing but its small clip means you better land everything and not fight more than 1 or 2. Scr is the same but with overheat instead of reload. Hmg requires a solid team or ill get run over after a kill or two. But with one? It's outstanding.
I guess it's just compared to cod, bf or halo, this game actually has a solid diverse selection of weapons I can be effective with.
And maybe it's because I spend a lot of time flanking, but most my deaths come from hmg, shotty and sniper and rail. Probably all tied ( all well after vehicle deaths). So I really don't see this massiv imbalance people speak of. |
