I have been using the normal heavy machine gun for the event. However, I skilled HMG operation up to level 4 on an alternate character to see how the burst HMG is. To me, it feels slightly more powerful! Although, I usually only see the regular variants on the kill feed. What do you think? |

Burst HMG has more DPS if you get all your shots to land consistently. Sadly you can only burst 5 times with the ADV tier before overheating.
Normal HMG still has horrifying DPS while being more forgiving when you come up against someone who strafes very well.
Regular HMG for crowds. Burst HMG for 1v1. (oh and getting a headshot burst on a heavy is almost as good as sex).
Dead on the ground.... Think I made a wrong turn :/

Yeah, the Burst HMG is not well suited for taking on more than one attacker, it also costs more than the regular HMG especially at proto level.

Honestly, all the HMGs are good and useful now. But the plain version does the job just as well as the others some 80% of the time, so for the sake of not having a billion fittings most people just use that.

burst is great in closed spaces. just be careful not to overheat but the damage is crazy and will chew through a cluster of enemies

It's really just about skill.
The more comfortable you get in a heavy's boots, the more you know what you can get away with and what you can't. When you know those margins you learn to optimise each burst, and it becomes the outright superior option.

The ADV Burst can be good in certain situations but like others have mentioned you will find yourself overwhelmed very easily. The proto Burst is a beast. Unless you run the Six Kin stick with the normal variant.

Regular HMG for crowds. Burst HMG for 1v1. (oh and getting a headshot burst on a heavy is almost as good as sex). Pretty much this, although a dampened heavy with a skilled up Six Kin burst can wreck a squad from behind before the last two mercs standing figured out what happened to their squad mates.
Also, the burst sounds awesome
It really comes down to - can you aim or do you spray. If you spray, go the normal hmg. If you can aim, thus getting most of the rounds to hit (and can manage heat build up effectively) go the burst. |

I should also add that it has been my experience that the regular HMG is more effective at longer ranges. I know the numbers are probably the same but in practice the Burst really loses a lot as you near max distance.

I use a basic HMG for my proficiency is at 5 and it does the same damage as a boundless but cost very little. In this event the heavy player base has increased 10 fold and it is kinda getting old killing heavy after heavy. I want my SP bonus not ISK. So my question is where the F*** did all these heavies come from and if you have been a heavy this whole time please skill into FG and give a brother a hand.
A heavy before 1.8
