It is not because it is the flavor of the month. Or that you cannot be stopped unless it is by another tank or a rare few coordinated squads. No it is about becoming the focal point. Every moment I stay on the battlefield supporting my team is another minute the enemy spends either trying to destroy my tank or avoid it. Much like the mass driver it is an area denial weapon. Used in support of a squad is a powerful asset not the end all be all of combat. It can push enemies from objectives even without firing a shot. The other team must risk their tanks as well to kill mine. So I may lose tanks or my WP are not at the top of the board. But that's not why I tank.
I play my tank almost like a logistics role. In support of the squad and the team. |

Its not tanks. Its the price of them, that is whats not right. So if your cheapest tank was to cost 500,000 ISK or more you would keep spawning them in death after death? |

I run Tanks because I ******* love Tanks. I had around 15 Service Stars in MBTs in BF3 before I stopped playing. I had around 100 hours in MBTs alone. Tanks are the bee's knees. I have 8m SP invested into Tanks in Dust. I don't care if their OP, UP, too expensive or whatever. I will keep running them because I ******* love tanks.

We are looking at it from different angles then. The tank is a force multiplier. It forces the enemy to adapt in ways they may not have wanted. In concert with a squad the tank serves as that distraction. It allows for coordinated strikes on objectives. Forcing the enemy to chose whether to deploy their own armor and risk losing it, deploy AV and engage the rest of the squad or any number of factors that makes squad warfare that much better. |

Not the most important thing on the field as things can be countered. It become then much like chess. Where do you put the tank. Do they have a tank? A lot of AV? How far forward should I go? Should I stay back for long range support? There are many roles a tank can perform. Though it seems that this opinion is in the minority so I shall be quiet about it. |

I run tanks because I used to main as a heavy with proto forge, but once they took the axe to the range and charging time of the forgegun, I decided to just get level 5 railgun turrets and snipe everything from the redline, or charge into battle with a blaster turret.
With the current price of tanks, it's so easy to make money, and if you need to get ammo or get more armor on the redline, just back up a little, recall your tank, and call in the same one, then continue to deny everyone on the other team their vehicles by using a proto turret with a damage mod and snipe everything an enemy RDV drops off.
Thanks CCP! I love this game!

So say I don't want to tank? What then? Why do I have to go full proto on the ground in Anti armor, which cost over 100,000 isk, while crap tankers spend half and get more out of it. I wanna run ground squad. What about us? Trying to counter tanks is a nightmare.

In concert with a squad the tank serves as that distraction. It allows for coordinated strikes on objectives. Forcing the enemy to chose whether to deploy their own armor and risk losing it, deploy AV and engage the rest of the squad or any number of factors that makes squad warfare that much better. The fact it's a force multiplier is what makes it OP. Here's Wikipedia:
Quote:Force multiplication, in military usage, refers to an attribute or a combination of attributes which make a given force more effective than that same force would be without it. The expected size increase required to have the same effectiveness without that advantage is the multiplication factor. For example, if a certain technology like GPS enables a force to accomplish the same results of a force five times as large but without GPS, then the multiplier is five. Let's just change that so it says:
Quote:For example, if a certain technology like tanks enables a force to accomplish the same results of a force five times as large but without tanks, then the multiplier is five That's what makes 1.7 tanks OP - one tank is as effective as several men (maybe not five, but certainly two or more), conferring a decisive advantage on the side with the most tanks.
And just to bring the point home, let's talk about something other than GPS or tanks:
Quote:For example, if a certain technology like rail rifles enables a force to accomplish the same results of a force five times as large but without rail rifles, then the multiplier is five If that were true, do you not think everyone would think RRs were OP? If one RR user was worth 5 of any other infantry, people would laugh at you if you said 'RRs aren't OP, they're just a force multiplier'. So how are tanks any less OP where they are the force multiplier? |

Tanks are not overpowered and cost wise they are where they should be. (Maybe militia ' s need to cost more.) Without max skills I can on average solo anyone who isn't talented)
The problem is with the number of tanks and that doesn't come with an easy fix. |

So can mine if I can get close, as in pass the kaalikiota rail rilfe, boundless combat rifle, blaster tank, boundless hmg, etc. Can't wait for OP mechs and a respec to pay these tanks back for all they're past discretion against me. I have put so much SP into swarms just to struggle and go broke against tanks smh. Destiny here I come.

You don't have a choice.
Your opponent just escalated the conflict. You then either have to step up or back out.
You don't ever see EVE players ***** and moan because someone dropped a battleship fleet into a fight.
Nope the opposing fleet either runs or it reships to counter that fleet.
