I recently just started playing Min scout, about a month ago. The first consideration for me to keep in mind is that its going to become a utility type role in 1.8. It will have 25% hack speed as a role bonus, an inherent 10% hack speed and 25% damage to nova knives so this really ought to give you your tactics some clear direction.
I've been using it in FW and skirmish as a hacker and point defence. It's amazing how blind people are, even without 1.8's cloaks so you can quite easily start flanking, stalking and NKing. I like to hang around objectives and wait for them to start hacking ****. I like to run with CR, NK and a scanner but also run with uplinks or REs in certain cases.
Other will give you fitting advice, and will probably tell you how **** the suit is but it's going to be the most unique and interesting scout imho dude to these new roles.

My Shotgun fit is,
Scout mk.0
Highs
3x Complex Shield Extenders
Lows
Complex Kin Cat Basic Profile Dampener (Only use this if you have Scout Dropsuit Level 5, and Profile Dampening 3)
Weapons
K5 Specialist Shotgun Submachine Gun (You'll be using it to finish them off, so you wont need anything more than Basic)
Equipment
Remote Explosives (If you're getting chased, drop one. The enemy will usually be so focused on killing you they wont notice)
Grenades
C-7 Flux Nade / M1 Locus Nade
Just really, dont run directly at enemies, and learning the maps is the best thing you can do.
I'll be making a Knife fit later because I plan on using them in PC battles more often.

You need to be able to successfully engage the enemy before they are aware of your presence. So focus on Dampening & speed skills. Secondly, most scout weapons are extremely situational. I highly recommend using the CR for both battle effectiveness & fitting requirements. & if you have yet to max out your core skills(Shield, armor, electronic, engineering), then you will find it very hard to make decent fits as a scout.
BTW, don't run proto scout suit directly at assaults. It will make you feel bad for yourself. |

Hey, I've been crunching the numbers and getting great advice on forums for about a week now. I've build all four scout classes in 1.8 based builds and have found Min to be the weakest due to its lower PG and Nova knifes not having a PG reduction skill. I can share what I've come up with:
Min: 100S 70A 5% hacking/nova knife Scout Adv: 232S 70A (302 armor + shields before % skills increases) M/1 3H 2L: 256C 43P before %'s to suit C/P Ups + Cape Adv: 209.75/332C 45.25/55P +1H -> 122C 9P +1H or 96C 9P w/enhance
Scout Pro: 232S 70A (302 armor + shields before skill % increases) MK 3H 3L Scout Pro: 298S 70A (368) MK 3H: 355C 62P C/P Ups 475C 80P
Right now I use a basic scout frame, Gal advanced and I have found I need the two complex extenders to get in and out of places. I also cannot afford to use proto scout frames every match, so I have to build both an adv and proto planned suit. When you have maxed the three CPU/PG drop suit skills 332C and 55P are your final numbers.
Using my build I can adjust to save you the CPU/PG needed: Stats above are adv cape with 2 complex extenders, 1 complex Kin, one complex stamina, and a HI slot of your choosing. So you will be forced into running a Cape St is only: 40C 8.75P at max scout bonus will allow, you more CPU and PG room and almost seems needed for Min Adv build. Also running an advanced Card Cat will save you slight CPU/PG. Allowing you to equip nova + sidearm and lowering enhancer to std or adv will free up even more CPU. And since you won't need a secondary dam mod you can afford a small increase in visibility.
You can use this: Std Cape, 2 shield extenders, std or adv precision enhancer, adv Cardiac, Kin Cat complex is the build now if you want to run nova knifes with scrambler pistol/low tier sub machine you'll have enough CPU/PG. Problem is for an adv min suit, the low PG will cause you to restrict your cape to std. Of course at Proto this problem is solved but for me while I can skill into Prototype it isn"t realistic ISK-wise.
Nova Knife + scrambler pistol looks to be best option because pistol provides low PG with solid range and if you're accurate you it's better. If you have small accuracy problems, a sub is a nice secondary for when foes backpedal or you get in a pinch. A k5 shotgun is great secondary or back up suit type weapon if you feel certain maps aren't going your way and want to switch it up but they are both cqc weapons and your secondary will be highly used if you are unable to put yourself in the right positions.
If seen players run 2 cat kin's but I like the stamina as a better 2nd lo because you will be required to flank or run around foes and attack from their back side (much harder in ambush to do).
Strategy wise, I'm working in how to play properly. I tend to do two things: 1. Find a spot slightly higher in the map and wait for people to come up then i jump down and try to run up behind them. 2. Find a choke point and circle around it. If you are unable to make it into effective range to use k5 or nova knifes without being seen it still provides opportunity to nade or suicide proxy mine.
Idk how cloaks will work but for now get used to routes of foes and a how to use objectives to influence a foe to make mistakes and become focused on it rather than you. Working in a team helps you greatly but I tend to run solo myself.
Hope it helps,
Cots
