I've played a few on an old CRT TV lately, and holy ******* ****...it's ******* disgusting. Crazy how much different the UI is in 480. Animation pop-ins are ******* gross. You can sneak up on somebody by walking straight into them up to about 10m. I can't see a thing. I keep looking for my glasses, which I was already wearing. I really hope somebody I know doesn't catch me playing like this, they might think I had some sort of traumatic brain injury since my last game. But, I wouldn't know if they did because I can't even read the player tags.

Aeon Amadi wrote:http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/data_hdpvr2-gaming.htmlTheir website leaves a lot to be desired (bunch of facts thrown together in a list) but it works very well for what it does. There are some other concerns though as the editing software is rather simplistic, you're going to want to invest in third party video editing software. A lot of people will say to use Windows Movie Maker (built into most Windows OS) but it has a lot of quality loss because of their compression methods. One good thing about the HDPVR2 is that it has built in encoding, so it won't bog your computer down and you won't have to invest in hardware to get it to run smooth. Because of this, you can livestream to Twitch with a few seconds delay =D
I also use that bit of kit to stream to Twitch, its super easy to use, but yes the editing software is crap.

Yeah I'm starting to realize as I go back and play more of my games that Sony and game devs did offer sd support but they clearly didn't intend it's use. There were so many games where I had to guess at the font or jack the brightness to the max and now it's clear as day.
The first dead space with its 'HUDless UI' or whatever was the game that made me think - 'Yeah...I need to go HD...'
You probably don't know me. But next time you get gunned down or exploded by a Valor scout...check the name.

TYCHUS MAXWELL wrote:So I just got a new TV today, and got a hdmi cable for my ps3 and wow...
Did CCP just put out a UI overhaul or does the game actually change things around when you are in HD? I figured it would provide a better picture quality but wow... I feel like a blind man who just had lasik eye surgery.
I ask because while the game was loading instead of it being the typical (You are entering a skirmish match and what that is) loading screen, it had a massive list of icons and what they meant, including Light and Heavy dropships, which that's cool didn't know they planned on making those, I knew medium ground are in the works, just not the aerial as they advertised icons.
I also ask because before I was using a 24" standard definition tv. People always spoke of Leader chevrons but at that definition let me tell you, you can't see them. Half the time I couldn't even see players, I just shot under their chevron.
Some examples of how big of a deal a 39" HD TV can cause:
Old TV: Couldn't see anything if it was 60 meters out but little blobs running about. New TV: I can see the lights of their eyes and see their animations as they run amok at 60 meters.
Old TV: Everyone had 1 chevron over their head. New TV: What is this 2 chevron crap?! Was this a thing?
Old TV: I aimed Forge guns at the back of tanks to try to hit the weak point and aimed around the chevron to hit drop suits. New TV: I aim the forge gun at the clear as day weak point boxes now that I can see them and aim a little in front of the now visible drop suits to kill them.
Old TV: CRUs were little diamond symbols and uplinks were what looked like a campfire. New TV: WAIT WHAT?! CRUs are a symbol of 3 generic people standing side by side and the uplink is a person standing in a star trek beam room?!
Moral of the story, if you haven't, you need to get a decently sized HD TV. I played pay day 2 and didn't see much of a difference other then screen size, but in HD this game adds all sorts of otherwise unseeable particle effects and lighting textures, not too mention being able to see what you are fighting is an extreme advantage.
I know what you mean. I've played on a 24" SD TV for basically all of my life. Then I got an HDMI cable and DUST just got a whole lot clearer.
I do think that DUST removes some small aesthetic features for 420p. For example, with an HDMI cable you can see the yellow "hazard" bar between alliance chat and your added channels. You can see all of the symbols more clearly, and colors pop out a lot more. Over all, I liked it, but I needed to basically put my TV into focus (like a pair of glasses) because years of playing on the SD TV made it so that my eyes hurt looking at 720p in vivid detail

Look for a "Game Mode" on your TV. It feeds the image to your screen with the minimum of processing which reduces latency which is paramount for twitch gaming.
Leave the processing on for sports and movies as it improves the picture and a fraction of a second delay in display doesn't hurt anything.
I've got a 60" Samsung LED DLP TV that works pretty well, and it can only display 1080 as that's its native mirror size. Any other resolution has to be converted to 1080..
I'm just waiting for that new OLED technology to become affordable. |

TYCHUS MAXWELL wrote: Edit: I do understand what you mean about the PC thing, televisions and PCs operate differently in that sense though. You wouldn't want a large TV that was only 1 foot from your face like the typical computer set up. But because you are further away with a TV you can more easily take in what is going on then if your face was pressed up against it so to speak.
Screen Viewing distance range 26" 3.25-5.5 feet 32" 4.0-6.66 feet 37" 4.63-7.71 feet 40" 5.0-8.33 feet 46" 5.75-9.5 feet 52" 6.5-10.8 feet 58" 7.25-12 feet 65" 8.13-13.5 feet 70" 8.75-14.75 feet
Go under those numbers and you have to move your head because your eyes can't see the the entire TV at once and any further away and you miss detail. Too close is just as bad or worse than too far.
