A heavy can Lock down a objective pretty well right now, after 1.8 it seems like it will be near impossible to take any indoor points.
Not to mention the MD(area denial weapon) getting a buff+rifles getting a nerf will just add to the problem.
This isn't a QQ thread, I will be rolling a Gallente heavy come 1.8, but I'm just kind of worried that most matches will come down to who can get to a point fastest and lay down uplinks.
It's pretty easy to figure how the best configuration for a team if that becomes the case.
I'd like just like to know the community'a thoughts on this.

It sounds like the area the MD should be denying is fairly well defined by walls.

I assume it will just be more heavy vs heavy combat indoors whoever can push harder will win.
That's pretty much what it is in some dom maps, the side with the most heavies will have the advantage.

Post-1.8 heavies can easily tank REs, especially as they'll have an inherent 25% resistance.

That's pretty much what it is in some dom maps, the side with the most heavies will have the advantage. Agreed.
I'd imagine the heavy and commando will become the best for Assaulting a point. Just need a Logi for good measure.
@Sgt Butt, the built in blast defense is gonna make that a bit harder. Not to mention all the people complaining about REs will probably get them nerfed. Also, scouts are gonna have a hard time surviving the endless steam of MDer rounds inside a point.
@Knight, yeah the cloak got preemptively my the community before we even got it on the field.

if i recall properly cloaked scouts wont be able to use equipments and weapons until they decloak.
well a heavy MAY hold an objective on his own but thats only if the enemy comes in one at a time, a squad of reds will make short work of any single heavy holding the point. and a heavy without his logi? well he'll run out of both ammo and armor (if he doesnt use armor rep plates)
though i am excited to try out the new heavy suits (IF CCP releases it in the next update) still dont know which suit to take so i'll more likely try them all out before deciding

cloaked scouts will help aleviate this. Cloaked scout + flux means your nanos and uplinks are all gone. + RE means your room of heavy logi blob just got dominated.
What worries me is the escalation of this. Eventually i see the big 4 for every squad being heavy, logi, caldari passive scanning scout, gallante low profile scout.
Room for 2 assaults, or whatever else. But With these 4 units in a squad, that squad will be crazy effective. |

Why use an assault when you can use an assault scout and have another cloaky scanner as well as an equally effective combatant?

Heavies galore in the research facility, specifically at key points while Scouts sneak around looking for intruders. There will then be a high demand for counter intelligence and what not but all we'll have is profile dampening. So scouts should be even more important when both sides have to run em.

Yeah, a good scout will be a valued asset. I just hope it evolves our gameplay further rather then devolve it(like how scanners became a valuable tool, then became the only tool)

You'll see teams of Scouts with remotes for sure, it'll call for more tactics but a committed MD team will usually be able to scare people away from an objective too if they're able to get a good angle on the objective and the team inside. I love those battles where you trap a team in an objective and make them realize they're gonna get cloned if they don't abandon it!

I think it's really hard to know. It depends a lot on how the general weapon rebalance goes and just how effective the cloak is (since we've had 0 images of what it may look like). |

I can agree with that, but from the looks of it, the HMG will remain the same and most rifles will be nerfed.
If the AR is nerfed as well...then...well I don't know...

I'd like just like to know the community'a thoughts on this. Mass Drivers and heavies work against objectives just as equally. Heavies will become the riot shields of Minmatar Logistics everywhere and when they can they'll pop MD rounds. Objectives will be assailable by Mass Drivers and Heavies as well.
Let's also not forget that CCP might be talking across the board TTK buff so people will stand better chance then you might think.

It'll be great. People will have to alter their tactics when these new fangled meat shields enter the game, with meatgrinders, lurking around in their caves.
