Every AUR item is on par with every other non-AUR version other for the skill factor; Basic requires no SP, Advanced requires level 1 in the relevant skill, and Prototype requires level 3 in the relevant skill. So do more, faster but not better or worse. Well, except for vehicles.
The AUR version of vehicles are worse than the non-AUR. This is because they require you to put in side turrets, which slaughters what the Tank is capable of doing. It is very clear that using gunners is an active choose now; you give up a lot defenses for having gunners. With the standard version of the Madrugar, I can choose to have a gunner or more defense/offense. With an AUR-Madrugar, the two extra small turrets limit my choices greatly.
Please consider allowing AUR and LP vehicles with 'yellow' BPO's to remove those BPO's from the vehicles. At the moment, I immediately know that if I see an AUR Madrugar they have at LEAST 144 CPU and 336 PG less than me. When the Madrugar has only 475 CPU and 2490 PG, it is simply not fair that 30% of their CPU is taken away without their choice. With my nearly perfect vehicle skills (5 Armor Fitting Optimization, Blaster at 4), I am literally +/-1 CPU from fitting so many different builds.
I can't have a single small blaster without dumping my Repairer from Complex to Advanced and my Complex Hardener to Basic. I am off by ONE CPU. It is very clear that this was designed on purpose and I LOVE it; I actually have different tanks for different things now rather than one tank to do everything, which is what it was before. The AUR Madrugar and Federation Madrugar is nearly worthless to those that have the skills to use a standard Madrugar, so only people that haven't invested the SP into vehicles will make use of it.
Some more numbers... HC-130 Madrugar: 475 CPU, 2490 PG but only 260 CPU and 1,407 free because of the yellow BPO's, only 1 of the 3 are necessary. Soma: 428 CPU, 2,241 PG. 257 CPU and 1,027 PG free. Both yellow BPO's are essential as it is the primary weapon and an armor repairer. An Armor tank without a repairer is bad. That being the case, let us add a Militia Repairer to the AUR Madrugar.
HC-130 Madrugar free CPU/PG: CPU/PG: 168 CPU, 891 PG. Soma free CPU/PG: 257 CPU, 1,027 PG
Simply put; the Soma is a better tank than the AUR version both if you have no skills or if you have skills because it lets you do more fittings even though the HC-130 has 1 extra low slot. That slot is worthless; it cannot be utilized effectively. The only time that the HC-130 is better than a Soma is if I want to have two gunners. This is rarely the case. In fact, having an open slot for gunners if you don't have someone in mind (IE, a friend) to utilize the gun is downright dangerous. Nothing is more frustrating than wanting to recall but not being able to because a blueberry has decided to live in your tank.
So for the customization factor: why would a non-tanker or a dedicated tanker ever use the HC-130 rather than the Soma or Madrugar? |

For the Fed/State tanks I can understand, they are so cheap. If you could remove the small turrets, you could make a pretty mean fitting for very little ISK. Proto turrets from the LP store cost hardly anything compared to the ISK versions. And because the price tag on the tank is so small, it would be pretty unreasonable if it could be as effective as its ISK counterpart. Well actually, it would make the ISK counterpart obsolete.
As to why would a non-tanker use them, because my Fed Maddy costs ~50,000 ISK fitted (and something something LP), comes with 5-6000 HP and immunity to most weapons on the field. I have ADV dropsuits that cost more. I get bored sometimesGǪ And I really don't care when tanks blow me up. Enjoy the free kills
This may not be the right answer at all, but itGÇÖs what I think. Why the AUR tank is the same though, I donGÇÖt knowGǪ

It costs little ISK but requires a different currency which has to be gained. It would be like saying "why would I buy strawberries when I can grow them?" The reason you buy strawberries is because it requires a different resource than money (time, labor, proper 'equipment'). Being able to slot the Fed/State versions like a normal tank wouldn't make the normal one obsolete. That's 66,360 ISK and 1,105 LP for the prototype turret compared to 282k. LP is harder to get than money. So you can save ISK and burn LP or not have to get LP and have to spend some more isk.
I logged on my other guy on this account. No SP spent on, well, anything, bought a Soma and an AUR Madrugar. Here is the outcome:
Soma: Militia Blaster, Militia Repairer, Militia Hardener.. Costs 63k 4000 armor AUR Madrugar: 2 small blasters, 1 large blaster, militia repairer, militia hardener. Same armor, costs 9.1k. There are 4 things things that will fit the the low slot: PG/CPU enhancer (not much point considering the lows are where all the defense is), ammo (which is only marginally useful), and a light armor repair or a light armor plate. The most armor in can get is 4,385.
That is supposed to be a basic tank. It isn't nearly as good as the basic Madrugar but EVERY other non-vehicle AUR item is on par with the basic version. For the person with no skills, just use a Soma; the turrets eat so much of the CPU and PG that there is no point in using the AUR/LP one. For the person with skills, use a Madrugar. Assuming the amount of time to get LP is about equal to the ISK saved, just use a standard one and build the tank how you actually want it.
The game has changed. Side gunners are no longer necessary. They shouldn't be necessary in the AUR or LP version either. It is unfair. |
