...how would the core FPS mechanics of DUST be re-reviewed by the FPS community?
Do you think anything has changed since the first wave of reviews? Is the gungame better, worse or different?

It is better than it was, but still not up to par with other shooters that have come out in the last 4 or 5 years.
Hopefully it keeps making progress, because it is one of the few things that has been heading in the right direction.

This game is still very subpar in regards to performance and mechanics.
Fatal errors, poorly executed asymmetrical gameplay, choppy/low framerates, clunky movement, terrain is frustrating to navigate and not enough "things to do".
We only have 2 gamemodes. Capture point control and team death match. Redressing these two game modes as "Faction Warfare" and "Planetary conquest" and team-death-match-except-things-falling-from-the-sky is not sufficient "new" content. IT's like when CCP thought a "New" map was an old map except it has turrets installations now.
If CCP were to ramp up their marketing on this game now, it would be a complete waste and would damage CCP's reputation, the game, and drive off all the players that may want to come back to this game.
The PC and SL should fit into the Sidearm slot so it's accessible and practical to carry one.

DUST has lost a lot of review score from everyone that recently reviewed for the close of the 2013 year...

And it's not like they aren't extremely accurate to the problems in DUST.

I do know jackshit about performance problems because I WAS in closed beta. Mordu's Private Trials. Restarting every 2 games. Skirmish V.1
Just because it improved, doesn't mean it's acceptable.
CCP still has a lot of work to do if they want this game to be up to par with the competition.

Ok, in my opinion.
The game plays with a lot of stick manipulation, which is different from a ton of other games, which just have you look near a target, hold L1, and then Hold R1 to kill. But other then that, and the occasional, and sometimes weird stop in the game, its ok.
That's if you don't count the recurring FOTM Items, which is now Vehicles, and annoying linear power progression of the tiers, but other then that, the game is solid enough to play consistently.

Really? because there was lag and rubber banding in Closed beta... But we get that now... To the point where it's on a majority of recent youtube vids of DUST.

Problems with DUST - Weapon / Vehicle balance problems - Inconsistent frame rates / choppy low almost unplayable frame rates. - Fatal Errors and other serious bugs of this nature - match making - Low end starter gear is far too weak hence new players are literally cannon fodder. - lack of interaction with eve - lack of game modes / things to do - Still does not have all racial weapons / vehicles / dropsuits etc... - Broken PC mechanic and inclusive boosting - Terrain bugs / general bugs and glitches like tanks not reloaded, LAV turrets aiming in random directions etc..
Good things about DUST - Skill customisation is awesome - Gameplay can be and has the potential to be awesome when matches are balanced somewhat - Everything is bought by the player / stuff has a cost - Potential in the EVE universe is staggering - Corps / Community play is great - Awesome rag dolls - Vehicles feel fun - Sounds are pretty cool, especially the LAV`s , Forge Guns etc... - The POTENTIAL of the game is very high. |

Potential is what you have when you fail. Dust 514 with 1.8 and other updates could fix the rough edges and balance everything out. Once that happens, this game could blow out other games out of the water. We could sustain a player base and a respectable community (unlike CoD). Hell, if Dust 514 fixed this I wouldn't mind it going into PC and PS4. I would pay $60 for this if they could make it happen. Just don't bring it to Xbox, please.

For all the potential and pipe dreams, DUST is still nothing more than a sub par lobby shooter. 2 Years later, heavies are finally getting new suits lol
Last I played, frame rate was bad, terrain was still blocky and clunky to navigate, weapon balancing was (always) poor, game is extremely noob unfriendly, same old game modes for how long now? Same old maps, barring 2-3 new ones, which when last I played sucked because they were way too big for the player count.
This game realistically needs another 3-4 years at the pace it's going at to be more than just sub par.

PS4 / PC is really the only way this game will ever live up to its original vision.

If CPP picks up the pace and takes the right steps, Dust 514 could deliver the experience that no common FPS player has ever encountered.
