It's just common sense.
I'm not going to stick around when I'm at a disadvantage so you can have your "fair fight". I'm going to run away and come back to hit you when your guard is down.
Sorry if that offends your sense of bushido...

No no, by all means, please do. I love getting hugs. My hungry, hungry HMG concurs.
All seriousness: I have less respect for the players who stand and fight me than the ones who use tactics, run away and juke to defeat my fatness.
The best fight I ever had was a 1v1 with a Scout on the rooftop of the Gallente communications map. He had an AR, I had FG and SMG. He'd chip away at me, flee to the various cover, and come back to hit me once his faster-charging shields were up.
It was a war of attrition slogfest, like DUST chess. And the Scout finally won in 5% armor. He got a well-deserved GG mail from me at the end. (If I had only cooked my last grenade a half-second longer...)
I figured I was the "boss fight" of that match.
Anyway, keep running away. The very best players in this game do the same.

This game is just a big cluster **** of paper-rock-scsissors. You might have what beats the enemy, you might not. If you have the exact same aim, and the exact same hit points, and the exact same weapon as an enemy, and he has a weapon modifier, you lose - not because you didn't have the skill, but because he could deal more damage.
This FPS requires probably some of the least skill and most luck/coincidence you can find in an FPS. I rarely feel as though I 'outskilled' an enemy when I kill them. I only feel like I rolled a higher number in dice, if that makes any sense. Of course if you run around with an RR or a tank then you are basically taking all the dice and manually putting them with the 6 side up. |

it's a bit lame to perma scan the enemy, wade in an out of red dots with your DMG modded rifle.. sit at insane ranges, or on buildings but run away when you are you forced into a mid range or cqc 1v1.
I never run from 1v1 with people I recognize, and often don't have the option to since the amount of DMG people can do before you can press sprint... so I always notice which players which will literally run away, bunny hop while spraying and flinging grenades the moment their 0.1 sec ttk duck hunt is interrupted... as opposed to the players who immediately fall into a strafe of some kind and handle the fight with obvious composure and skill.

I used to do this with an AR/SMG - in tighter corners and a crate to dance around an ScP/SMG works as well. It also an RRs only weakness as well (charge delay) - sometimes they spam shots while chasing you, and you get feel for when they reload...
Fighting a heavy is like playing Shadow of the Collosus for me - lots of fun ^_^

A tactical retreat always makes sense.
I think most of the threads I've seen where people complain about someone running away happens because the person running away has the odds immeasurably stacked in their favor and someone still manage to be cornered.
Thus while they have no problem stomping on other players, even the slightest hint of defeat and they run at full speed.
Not saying it isn't the smart thing to do, but terribly unsatisfying for a dominant foe to run rather than meet you in a test of skill. |

The way i work my scout is to sprint with zig zags, and to jump at a 15 degree or so angle to the enemy(typically i want to land 5-8 meters away) then i continue my rampage. If i'm actively dodging fire and not trying to fight, i'll be sprinting, stop sprint, re-engage and jump, back up, sprint again and final sprint jump. The idea is to throw off their aim as much as possible.
Also the way scouts 'run away before death' is they run the moment anyone looks at them, as to make sure RR doesn't 2-3 shot their asses. I'm not gonna lie, that's the hardest thing, is knowing the 35+ gaming personalities that you'll have to know the weaknesses of- the twitchy CoD player, the cool and (sometimes too much) calm guy that doesn't move too much, the guy that's so tunnelvisioned that you can walk 2 feet away from them and remain undetected, and then the 'Me' who is constantly doing 180's and 360's to make sure you're not getting nova'd.

This!
Ive spent a lot of time steathily watching players visually and on extended passives - thinking ahead about how they would react in a particular situation, and adaptin my strategy to that is half the battle for me.
The best is when it's scout v scout and then it's kinda a race to either flank or correctly predict their flank.
Also, speaking of bushido - I remember reading that in some sword duels, samurai would basically stare at each other (playing out the battle in their mind), until one realised they could not win and forfeit.
I'm going to mention Arkena Wyrmspire at this point - I've been watching you in battles - So many times I've wanted to RE/shotgun trap your Amarr Med/ScR... And I've just thought to myself...'I'll not succeed against this one...'
