The experience i feel while i try to engage in a game of ambush or Dom on most maps is very dissatisfying to play.
Ambush is often nothing but a open kill ground for vehicles to run ramped whle player run frantic like ants looking for each other on a 5x5km map,it's aggravating , it's meaning empty and the only thing it achieves most of the time is spikes in my blood pressure.
Dom is a game of submission and boredom, waiting 20-25mins for the game to end because your team or enemy team didn't try hard enough to push an objective placed in a very inconvenient design choice(im looking at you Fracture Road you pos) located 670m way from their spawns with no uplinks in sights, with the MCC at 40% armor while the enemy team still has 80% shields.i sit quietly in my MCC watching the tank after tank enter and leave my teams red line or watch blues as they frantically try to get close to the objective only to be pick up by a 360* scanner and are quickly dispose of,poor blue
Skirmish is alright however the lack of squadplay between teammates quickly turns this mode into another Dom waiting game.
Care to add?
A strange game.
The only winning move is
not to play.

Ambush - equivalent to self harming.
Skirmish - marathon running between objectives while barely getting any fighting
Domination - redline snipefest

Some of the most epic battles I've ever had have been a Dom. If both teams have good uplinks (not on rooftops, that rarely works - it doesn't encourage other players to push the objective)
And when I say epic I really do mean epic. The action was constant and the pressure the enemy exerted on trying to take the objective was incredible. Even the rear was frantic with logi's setting up a triage centre and keeping the lines supplied. Even calling in a 16 kill orbital somehow didn't make a difference.
Sadly recreating this is almost impossible (its entirely down to good uplink placement) and as much as I do like some of the newer maps they seem too large to make it work (at least it hasn't for us yet). Perhaps a larger player count per match would do it but I can't imagine it working with the current sockets.
I like Skirm but the only prob we have is other players pushing objectives. I mean for f*** sake we're holding this objective just fine (usually with the entire enemy team coming down on us) why the hell don't the capture somewhere else?! I'd hold a f****** parade for them! (complete with flaylock and PC fireworks )

Unfortunately you usually have three tanks from one side or the other parked on the objective nowadays and the game is effectively over within 3 minutes. |

When Solo, I only Skirmish - even (especially?) when being stomped there is something for a scout like me to do. Dom can be ok solo, but it's dependant on the map. I can get a 20+ kill streak defending the point or I can go 5/15 trying to do something.
I only ambush if SL decides - in which case I have a fit with a standard needle, I save as many clones as I take - but I'm in a squad anyway with usually a ADS or Tank...solo it's not worth the (r)ISK.
You probably don't know me. But next time you get gunned down or exploded by a Valor scout...check the name.

Ambush is incredibly horrible
Domination is boring
Skirmish is the only one that is mildly entertaining to play

spambush...enough said
skirmish....run around a lot, high risk of gettin shot in the back, nobody works together, then red line.
domination, everyone attacks one point , fighting is constant, running is rare, redlining happens easier.
end of the day the way i approach each map depends on the weapon and tactics i decide to employ in each. |

lolambush: Haven't played it in months. I'm no masochist.
Dom on the Gallente facility map: Freaking BRUTAL in the best possible way. As in constant ammo depleting CQC carnage, 10 kill orbitals, race to clone out the other team with 2 ticks left on the MCC epic. God I love that map.
Dom on whatever that new map with the single set of long pipes and central tower with the objective under it is called: I want to gouge my own eyes out it's so painful.
Skirmish: On average more enjoyable. Less map-dependant.

I don't really play Ambush or Domination so this is how my Skirmish match goes (HMG):
I choose a point and defend it and in case of a clone failure, respawn and clear the point if clearing results in another clone failure, spawn elsewhere and make my way back to the point
I repeat this until the match ends, some extremely fun matches and some incredibly boring but that the life of a point-defense heavy
I will show you fear in a handful of dust.
1.7 best match (HMG): 40/9/9 (K/A/D)

Ambush = Pointless, ruined by tanks, tank spam and open ground, infantry get slaughtered. very, very one-sided often with one side taking under 10 clone losses.
Skirmish = Very boring, when there is action it is entirely situated around ONE objective, even on a 5 objective map on which it is nothing more than a game of cat-and-mouse. Players desperately try to find each other and some action.
Domination = one-sided, decided within the first 5 minutes, sometimes the entire game is decided on the first spawn, sometimes I see 0 enemies and maybe a few tanks. Sometimes the enemy don't even come out of the redline, the fact that there are no spawns and 100s of metres of open ground to cover extinguish any possibility of enthusiasm needed for this game mode.
All in all the 3 modes which this game has to offer are very boring, mainly because the maps are too big, if they were smaller the game would probably run better too. The objectives shouldn't be so easily farmed by tanks,, On the contrary, the CQC sockets which house objectives are often too small and favour shotguns and heavies. |
