Yep, getting the Dropsuit; Electronics, Engineering and Core Upgrades to 5 are some of the most overlooked skills in the game as they apply to all suits and builds youGÇÖll be using throughout your mercenary career.
Modules, Equipment, Dropsuits and Weapons should come next and also in that order.

I'd put weapon before dropsuit, but I guess that depends on playstyle.
I only prioritise weapon like that because you can have the passives buffing your lower level stuff.
Otherwise your list is spot on.
No.

Core skills
Weapon
Suit
Equipment
If course that is only my opinion.
This only applies to medium frame and assault suits.

Basic suit, basic modules, advanced weapon, core skills to 3, suit 3, specialize, advanced modules, proto weapon, damage mods, finish core skills, get proto modules, proto damage mod, proficiency on your weapon to 3, proto suit.
That's how I went about it. Slow and steady. At 13.5mill SP, I'll have my proto Scout. I've skipped proto modules, though since I left kincats at 3. I'll go to 5 after my new suit skill. |

Core skills will not fail you although nothing in Dust514 is for certain. CCP/Shanghai has a history of changing the wording on features such that they don't mean what they originally did. Normally this behavior is limited to major updates but it is always best to read the description before you buy the skill book and then spend SP on it. Or worse yet, AURUM.
As to drop suits any points spent before 1.8 is released will be wasted. There is no promise of getting SP/ISK refunded and the drop suits will change dramatically. All the bonuses for suits changes, the racial variants will all be out and there is little doubt that something will be OP because nothing that has been released so far has had a gotcha that CCP/Shanghai didn't figure out before the gamers did.
Weapons are in the same basic area at the drop suits. Changes will happen, every patch that has released a weapon has left us mercs with a new OP toy to love or hate. Leave enough SP to go to level 4 for at least one weapon. With that and LP you can get a reasonable feeling for it. If it is too good to be true then expect a Nerf Hammer to fix it, although the Combat and Rail rifles are clearly OP CCP/Shanghai has yet to acknowledge the fact nor indicate they are going to fix them. They seem satisfied to have nuked the assault rifle back to a second class weapon.
Modules? Here I am not sure what you are talking about. Modules are tied to drop suit upgrades so having them separate is unclear to me. Just beware that many skills will allow access to basic, enhanced and complex variants but will actually provide no other benefit while other skills actually increase the effectiveness of the related module. Effectively some require double the SP because you need access to the modules and then a related bonus.
Without a SP refund guaranteed for drop suits, drop suit upgrades and weapons almost everything spent before 1.8 is a gamble. Horde SP and run cheap suits until you can determine if you want to run a cloaked scout suit. That appears to be the favored fit that CCP/Shanghai is delivering as the only solution worth using for 1.8, getting knifed in the back while trying to hack an objective will make most other suits boring. Or too expensive to use.
Good Luck.
And so it goes.

it really depends on your playstyle and suit you are using. When I use to play heavy AGES ago, I usually put a point or two into CPU/PG b/c I had so much left over that it wasn't really needed at that point (until started using the FG). So it really depends on several factors:
- Suit using - Weapon, and version (meaning , std-proto) - Playstyle
one thing you normally always want to max first, is your passive hp buffs in my opinion, for your shield and armor as like said before me they affect every suit you will have/use. After that, you can spread SP into your hp modules and at that point your cpu/pg as well (if anything get those early to lv4 each, as that will let u fit about anything u need prior to your proto suit w/ pure proto modules/equip) |

I think it all depends on what you want to do. For me (scout) it's:
Modules; core skills; equipment; weapon; dropsuit
Dropsuit is only last for me because minmatar scouts just keep getting more high-slots as the tier increases. High slots are useless on scouts.
I am your scan error.

actually, they said they will fix the rail rifle by lowering damage and other things, and they hinted at fixing the other op weapons like the cr |
