Specced into gunnlogis, proto rail turrets. After experimenting with some setups, I find a dual hardened gunnlogi to be my favorite. Not to have hardeners on 90% of the time, but because of how much damage I can absorb when both are up at the same time.
Therefore, I propose these changes.
Standardize all hardener cooldowns to militia level. Instead of reducing cooldowns, have them increase resistance as you go up the tiers. Proto shield hardener should be 80%. Proto armor should be 60%. A tank with a hardener up should be nigh indestructible. But it should have to wait a long time before becoming so hard to kill.
Limit one hardener per vehicle. Force that window of opportunity to close. can cry about your sandbox, but there are Eve side modules you can only fit one of, the most similar to our hardeners would be a marauder's bastion module (gives armor AND shield resistance) so you can suck an egg. Permahardened gunnlogis are gamebreaking. As much fun as I had running one for awhile, that's just ridiculous. One per vehicle.
Slow tanks down. Perhaps by 25%. A tank, no matter the race, is about staying power. This is at the expense of maneuverability. See LAVs for maneuverability at the expense of tank (Ha.) A tank should be hard to kill, but easy to trap. Escape is the realm of the jeep.
Finally, make large blasters be AV instead of AI, BUT NOT YET. For now, keep their AI role. This is because, beyond LAVs and each other, tanks have nothing to shoot at. MAVs need to come out first, then redesign HAV weapons to be around blowing up other vehicles.
In conclusion, a tank should be nearly unkillable when a proto hardener is turned on. But there should be a period where the tank is vulnerable to counterattack. And since players clearly try to bypass the waves of opportunity mechanic, we should force it on them. Limit one vehicle per hardener. Standardize hardener cooldowns. Have resistance increase as you go up the tiers. Slow tanks down.
Best PVE idea I've seen.

Best tank balancing suggestion I've seen so far, particularly the hardener changes. That alone may be enough. It's never wise to nerf multiple aspects at the same time- CCP has proven that, and we know they can adjust tank speed via hotfixes, so let's start with hardeners changes and go from there. Anyway, huge +1 |
