It just can't be doing full damage.
I didn't use the Assault Combat Rifle in quite a while, but yesterday I started using it again. And it simply beats the AR in every way possible.
It feels like it has 100 DPS over it, when in reality it's slightly lower.
Any ideas as to why that could be? I already ruled out shield/armor differences, since my AR has higher prof than the CR compensating for the damage difference.
Shield regeneration bonus for Gallente Assault is about as useful as Sharpshooter for Nova Knives.

Ask yourself: which one is the newest SP sink, thus having the highest AUR-generating potential?
Then soak that in.
AUR-value = killing efficiency, everything else is a work of fiction.

IMO the ACR's hip fire feels much better because of the 450RPM increase- it has incredibly consistent damage application. |

I'm doing well with the AR (GEK).
Was running the Scout g.k0 earlier today with the GEK and did quite well (28/4, 26/3, etc)...it just does much better up close now, if you're trying to use it at range, unfortunately you're doing it wrong post 1.7.
I feel the AR is now a perfect scout's weapon due to the fact that it is so deadly in CQC now.

Also, I think, a tighter hip-fire than the AR, though I'm not sure. I don't use ACR, but definitely the hip fire on AR is much better than hip fire on RR at medium range. I think this is at least partly due to the RoF difference - as you say, damage application is more consistent the higher the RoF. |

You're landing more of your shots with the ACR, High RoF low damage, and if you miss just a little you don't notice it that much. The AR is mid RoF mid damage, so is you are missing just a little then you are going to feel it a lot more. I use the AR all the time, on my scout speed build (mostly only CQC) and don't have a noticable problem with it, but then I aim like a champ... Most of the time anyway

The ACR has a better efficiency against armor (what most people are using)and has a higher efficiency overall. Its a little better than the AR.

This is just a pure, honest guess here. I am probably wrong but it is just a possibility mixed with an opinion:
The Rail Rifle and the Combat Rifle were balanced around what the Assault Rifle (change the name CCP) used to be. The AR has been through several changes that have lowered its power from what it used to be (total range reduction, optimal reduction, I think there was also a ROF and damage reduction). The Rail Rifle and Combat Rifle may have been modeled off of it.
There is also the problem that the AR really lacks its own identity. The Rail Rifle is great at medium-long range, the Combat Rifle is great at short-medium range, the Assault Combat Rifle is devastating in CQC-short, and the Assault Rifle is just kind of good at CQC-short.
It is just evolution of the guns. An organism that was relatively adept at living on land and sea is being threatened with extinction by two competitors that are perfectly adapted to their environment. If the AR goes into the water, the Combat Rifle eats it. If the AR goes onto land, the Rail Rifle eats it. To keep beating this analogy with a stick, the AR needs to learn how to fly. |

Nah, if you do the math for DPS for the two rifles the AR still beats it in DPS even with the ACRs imbalanced efficacy swing.

Not in the entire year of 2013 it wasn't. The only change to the vanilla AR, that I am aware of, in 2013, is a damage buff at the beginning of uprising, outside of range changes that is.

AR DPS > ACR DPS
however
AR does 90% damage vs Armor CR does 110% damage vs Armor
Almost everyone armor tanks their suits making the CR the better choice. If were still had the old armor movement penalties or armor HP more people would shield tank and the AR would be the better choice.

The CR is not better because of damage type. It is better because it has vastly increased raw damage output, higher range, and higher RPM.
