I am, and have always been, a supporter of PFC as a platform for encouraging smaller corporations and new players to become involved in both PC and the meta-gaming that makes the EVE universe so attractive to so many of us. It's important to me as a fan of DUST and the EVE universe that this game is successful, and I believe that institutions like this are critical for improving the new player experience and helping player retention. Were PFC to burn, or be otherwise exploited, I and many other like-minded individuals would view this as a great loss for the community.
Planet Fight Club has been, up until now, reliant solely on the generosity and goodwill of whatever corporation currently holding the PC crown. It's to the credit of tier-1 corps such as the Imps, TeamPlayers, DDB, Ancient-Exiles and others I've likely forgotten (I'm sorry!) that PFC has been allowed to thrive in such a harsh sandbox as New Eden. Of course, relying on generosity is a less than ideal solution in a universe where greed is greater than all. Under the current system failure can only be delayed.
The core issue that PFC faces is it's lack of true sovereignty. On any given day it's a few clone packs shy of being wiped from existence, and without some generous benefactor to do the heavy lifting all but lost.
Kane Spero has worked hard to see that PFC is capable of standing on its own two feet, and granted along the way he's stepped on a few toes, I believe that he has at heart only the best intentions for this planet and the continuation of what will grow into a legacy.
While I do not agree on the current weekly rate of 8 million per week, per corporation, I do recognize that a proper defence is expensive. Is it expensive the indefinite tune of 200 million ISK per week? No, most probably no where near that once the planet is running as intended. Is it necessary however that PFC as an entity has a safety-net for when **** hits the fan? Yes, absolutely. Without it we can't actually claim any sovereignty over our little piece of Molden Heath.
tl;dr No ISK should be coming out of the system if no service is being required. It makes sense to pay for a measurable, legitimate service. It does not make sense to pay an indefinite fee for the promise of safety.
Rather than falling prey to our initial knee-jerk reaction of calling foul on Spero, we would be wise to evaluate exactly what options are available to the current occupants of PFC if we wish to create a PFC that is both stable and true to our intentions.
The leadership of PFC needs to come together and decided on issues such as;
How big we want that safety net to be?
War is expensive, and unless you've held a director role in corporation that's done anything serious in PC is hard to appreciate exactly how expensive war can be. 800 million ISK would not last a week. Castor Crave and the kind donor wishing to remain anonymous have done us a great service by getting this safety-net going but is it enough for any sustained threat?
How do we replenish this fund?
At what rate should it be replenished, and how do we go about enforcing adherence?
What other alternatives are available?
Rather than simply crying about extortion, what alternatives can you suggest to strengthen PFC and its sovereignty? What other solutions are available to us?
Lastly, although Spero's tactics in rooting out farmers may have been a little heavy-handed, I would ask that any corporation feeling themselves to be a victim of friendly fire come forward to either myself or Spero in repealing their displacement.

I agree with the OP. Unfortunately the "PFC Leadership" agreed to this nonsense already. They're stuck with the terrible decision they made. Granted 8m/wk is cheap for protection, but what you're really paying for is protection from NF. |

As a favor to Kane really putting in work to make PFC finally run as we had all envisioned I'm providing that opportunity, but every time I see some punk representing a PFC corp spouting off like they really CAN fend for themselves vs the likes of players with whom I associate(or Ultramarines TKing us in pubs, stealing my players tanks and trying to blow us up before getting banned from FW..yes you are on notice regardless of all this. don't f**k with your masters), it takes more and more restraint on my part to keep from PROVING to you that you are sorely misguided.

Iskandar Zul Karnain and I had a very long conversation and many of these excellent points were raised. The donation has bought PFC some breathing room for sure, but the issues around funding will need to be addressed.

Just saying thank you to Kain, Cubs, and the rest of some the best players in this game for successfully defending our district against a flip last night. Watching how these guys with unbelieveable amounts of PC experience between them ran the map and adapted to changes during battle was worth every single isk you could pay them.
Not only is it an insurance plan, you get to learn how to run a team at the same time from the best in the game. I learned a shiiit ton from Cubs last night.
Anyone who doesn't see this as a great thing on PFC needs their fng head examined.
