CCP Frame wrote: We chose to go with Option #2 (limiting skill points earned to a maximum of 1.000 SP per battle after the cap has been hit) as it was both the safer and the most popular option among the players. We will monitor the situation after the changes are live and look forward to receiving feedback from you. Once again, we would like to remind you that weekly skill point rollover system is being worked on and that this is just the temporary solution that we are implementing.

CCP Nothin wrote: We acknowledge that the current implementation of the skill cap still isn't quite there yet. It doesn't quite allow people to choose when to play as freely as we would like, and it also adds some unnecessary complexity when it comes to using active boosters. This is why we are working our way towards a rollover SP system: instead having your pool of bonus SP being reset according to a fixed weekly cycle, you will steadily accumulate bonus SP to a pool over time that you can then empty through fighting in battles. As a result, everyone should be able to better choose when to come in and claim the available SP. Moving to such a system would have the added benefit of allowing us to make active boosters to give out a constant value over time by having them influence the rate at which SP accumulates into the pool instead of just multiplying SP received at the end of each battle.

CCP Saberwing wrote: Having spoken with a bunch of you, the SP Rollover seems to be something that's been thrown around the community quite a while before I joined. It's something we're definitely interested in exploring further and discussing internally, but I'd welcome any thoughts you all have as to what would be the best system to encourage both new and veteran players.

I am curious what the current state of the SP Rollover system is in? I understand that there have been things that have been requested for longer such as PvE or EVE-DUST Market Integration but it seems to me as if the SP Rollover system would be far, far easier to add.
* PvE is a new mechanic that would need balancing as well as creation of AI, game modes, and possibly maps. Then there are questions such as "should it give rewards?", "how do we make sure people still play PvE?", "what should PvE include?" It is a difficult mechanic to add. Jeez, it is even a difficult concept to fully envision. * Connecting the two markets places of EVE is something I see as being even harder. I started up a trial account. Doing the newbie missions in about a week or so, I was given various ships. I ended up quick selling them and doing some passive mining in a Mining Frigate. The destroyers given out sold for several million and me just farming High Security ores was worth millions an hour. Chump change for EVE pilots, not so true for DUST mercenaries. Trying to make sure that the economy is stable and fair is going to be a nightmare. * DUST already keeps track of my character in all aspects; suits, Passive SP, Active bonus left, ISK, kills, WP, deaths. If the game's system is easily capable of doing that, keeping track of Rollover couldn't be too difficult. Every day at downtime, add 27,200 SP into the bank. If there is an Active Booster online, make it 40,800 for Basic or 54,400 for Omega. Active Boosters would then also let you get into the bank faster, gaining 4,500/6,000 SP a match rather than 3,000.
I am not a programmer but it seems to me that an SP Rollover system wouldn't be overly difficult to come up with, especially compared to the things that the community has been salivating for. It has been known about for a year and the last statement was 3 months ago.

I too am very curious if CCP has any intention of bringing in a SP rollover system or if they have any other news on this.
It has been talked about for over a year now. So CCP? |

Current status is "on the bookshelf".
Turned out it wasn't as easy as it sounds, and CCP still hasn't figured out a way to implement it without totally borking their whole SP system.
One day perhaps.
Edit - Something about boosters and multipliers, etc, etc. |

Right but there has been zero explanation. Things like PvE and Market Integration has gotten near constant statements that they are actively working on it and are trying to figure out how to do it in a fair fashion. All we have gotten about the SP Rollover is "yup, something we would like to do" or "the community seems to really want a rollover system." |

SP rollover will NEVER happen, as it interferes with CCP's monetization plans.
Right now you have a 190k cap per week. If you buy a week's booster and grind, you'll get 285k sp for your money.
Imagine you've rolled over a million sp. You buy a week's booster and grind like a maniac you get 1.5 million sp for your money.
Yeah, never going to happen... |

I've had a link in my sig to the second quote in your post for a while now.
I'd recommend anyone that supports rollover SP does the same.

Yeah, never going to happen... Or instead of letting you earn extra SP per match, the booster could increase the rollover buildup rate so over a week, instead of accumulating another 190,000 SP, you would gain 285,000 SP, so the booster gives you exactly what it did beforehand, but because of the rollover system, it gives it in a different form. |

On the contrary: The SP Bank would be multiplied by an Active Booster, meaning you couldn't just get a 3 day booster and grind for those 3 days. So if you didn't play for a month, you would have around 816k SP in your bank. A booster would let you get 816k but you would get it faster. If you had a 30 day booster for all that time, you would have 1.224 million in the bank. It would mean having an Active Booster all the time would be how you got your money.
Look at one of the quotes: "Moving to such a system would have the added benefit of allowing us to make active boosters to give out a constant value over time by having them influence the rate at which SP accumulates into the pool instead of just multiplying SP received at the end of each battle." So CCP would get people who only buy 3 day boosters because they cap in those days to get 30 day boosters so they can get the most out of their SP bank.

Sadly, no. I wish it took a long time.
1. Click on Dev Posts. 2. Search for "rollover." 3. Only seven Dev Posts that contain "rollover", one of which has nothing to do with SP Rollover.

The very basis of EVE is "play when you want." Seriously if the game where less hardcore and changed slightly, it would work perfectly as a casual game. Think about it; you could alter the game and turn it into a facebook game. Log on for a few minutes, change training. I don't see that happening but EVE is all about play when you want, in spurts of hardcore or lulls. A roll over system would add the same thing for dust. Those jerks that go to fanfest shouldn't lose out on their SP. |

3 What is the current status?
1. CCP specializes in complex video games . . . I guess we'll hear what they're planning for next year at Fanfest coming up on May 1. All I've got to say is that it had better be good . . . The gamer community here in general seems to be pretty demanding.
2. Ditto. In any case, it must already be a nightmare for the developers. I believe the economy's already been cracked by a few unscrupulous corps who, for example, have squatted the Planetary Conquest section and farm it for billions of isk. These corps seem to have also cracked the SP system and are able generate 10s of thousands of SP per game for most of their Corp's players. In other words, a few of those Protostompers that we all get stomped by have no money or SP scarcity problem like the rest of us do.
3. I'd love to hear what the status is myself. I hope that their plans live up to the community's expectations. In the end, everything depends on whether or not CCP believes in their own future and invests the money needed to make this a much greater game than before (or just relax and let it slide into oblivion). They've got to be really anxious what with so many great games out there snapping at their heels.
