CCP, you sneaky little buggers. I see how you operate now, yea, I'm looking at you, free aurum stuff giveaways! You thought if you gave me free aurum items that I'd put them on my suits and then continually restock without remembering I had those items there during matches... well... you win this round, CCP... you win this round...
Anyone else had this happen? Put in Aurum item on, something small (In my case, the R-9 drop uplink) and then forget you had it there, so you just keep restocking the suits during battle, your Aurum going down little by little until finally, you realize what's going on and get rid of that item? I even made a mental note not to restock these suits ;~; Looks like I may have to end up buying another PSN card if any omega boosters come out. *Sighs*
Cursed sneaky little devils. My helmet goes off to your genius... or my stupidity, I'm not quite sure which was the deciding factor in this battle...

In answer to the O.P. yes. Yes it is a trap. On one hand giving away free stuff is a very nice gesture so people can try things out. On the other hand once people get used to them suddenly spending cash to maintain a new normal is easier to do. For anyone minding a budget AUR kit is the very last thing that should ever be used.

Lol I'm not blaming them, so to speak. I know it was my fault, it was just something that gave me a laugh (Even if I may end up buying a few dollars more worth of Aurum later) and I figured I'd share. ^~^

Yeah, I've almost done this a few times! Thankfully I caught myself at the last moment.... good thing to, because I typically let my fits get down to about 2-3, then replenish up to 40 or 50. I guess it's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but it can definitely add up!
I seem to recall just seeing that Jurassic park scene somewhere recently....

No, because I'm smart enough not to buy and use any perishable Aurum items and to actually skill into an item rather than power play with an OP FOTM. I'm looking at you rail turret.

There was nothing clever about those red dots. I mean, seriously. One of them actually tried to counter knife me. Cheeky little bugger turned around when I was behind him, even in that suit, I could see the "Oh ****" look in his eyes!

never use AUR, you never know when something inevitable will cost you ACTUAL bucks
1 you could spawn in the worst place possible 2 take out a whole squad just to get blasted by that automatic blaster that was too far for you to even mind it 3 that guy with the Thale's/Charge up on the tower 300m away 4 that grenade that you cook perfectly just to see it bounce on an invisible hitbox/ intrusive blueberry's back 5 etc....

I don't really spend money on anything but boosters (Which I only got because of the 5x SP event that just passed) and the occasional moment of weapon testing before speccing into something. This just happened because I stopped paying attention lol I never run Aurum gear unless it's given from an event, and after this, I'll likely never do it again.

Well free to play is just a pricing scheme after all and nothing in life is ever free. But no they haven't gotten me yet, but I never run anything down to where I am buying suits in battle either.

Just a side thought for those who maybe don't have as much financial awareness in battle as Zahle does...
When you are fitting your suits, fit them so that you only have a limited number. Let's say 10 cheap suits and 3 expensive suits. During the battle you're dying, respawning, and dying agian (And I even die some more because I'm that good.) You're not thinking about coming out ISK positive. This way, however, once you've used a set number of fits, you'll see they show up invalid. That means it's time to go to cheaper/free fits for the rest of the match. After the match, restock to previous levels. If you do it correctly, you'll come out making money after every match.

That's actually what I usually do. Almost always run cheaper fits (The uplink suit that chugged aurum is only 24k) and keep only a few of them in stock to avoid spending huge amounts of Isk in a single game. Definitely good advice for anyone who doesn't have a few hundred million to spend.

It's happened to me once or twice several months ago, probably only spent a few hundred aur. But I still restock the stuff independently and not by the entire fitting. It doesn't really take that long, realistically all my suits have the same 4 modules on them so you restock 1 fitting like that it pretty much gets them all.
