Hey i've been playing for about a week and read all these guides on this forum but I keep dying still. If i squad up I still die, I like playing logistics but I die so much even when i'm with a squad,
What I am asking for is, a playstyle where I stay alive at all costs because I am sick of dying 10+ times per game. |

If you like being a logi don't try to encounter an enemy unless they are coming at you or you KNOW you can kill them. Logi's are meant to help the people you are trying to kill you. Also I recommend boosting you armor and shield skills to raise you HP.

What's not to love about the scrambler rifle, the thing is a precision weapon and at the same time a shotgun.

This is a RPG FPS, you are going to die a lot when you fight players that are a higher "level" than you. It is what it is. That's why people want the PVE to come out because RPGs set in a pvp only environment with grind to win mechanics usually isn't fun to most humans hence our abysmal player retention as a community. You can kill them at least, if the proto stompers had their way, your militia/std gear would be as useful as militia av is against militia tanks. |

1 week only dying 10 times...not bad. I was eating dust 17 times. Now, 8 months later I'm under 5 but my kills are out numbering my deaths. Learning maps and radar use. Moving, when to duck behind cover, etc. just takes some time. Switch your mindset. A win is making ISK and getting shots on target. I was a mess. I used to play flight simulators so i'd pull back on the stick to look up. Lol. Anyway, just keep on trying and use cover! Keep your head on a swivel and never stand still. You'll get there. |

You can invert the Y-Axis, I played flight sims too and I invert the Y-Axis on every shooter I play for that very reason. |

Welcome to the club. I've been playing over a year and have this exact same problem. Some people do very well from the start, some (me) just don't learn.
Don't rush head-on to the enemies, skirt outsides and stay in cover. Advance carefully. Take a 360 sweep every now and then just in time to see that shotgun-scout headshotting you. Get your shield and armor skills up. Find a group (in-and-out of battle) and stick with it, concentrated fire is a force multiplier.
In the end of the day when all is said and done, you just need to accept that some games you do good, some games you do horrible. But it gets better as you get feel of the game and skills to complement your playstyle.

Here are a couple of concepts/pointers for survivability.
Tactics...
1. Don't engage multiple enemies when you are alone. The best way to do this is to stay close to your squad members and team-mates.
2. Don't engage an enemy head-on when that enemy has you out-gunned. To accomplish this, you need to learn to recognize dropsuits or use the intel found on the right lower side of the HUD when you have an enemy in your sights.
3. Flank. When you are starting out, most of your kills will take the form of you getting the drop on someone while they don't see you.
4. Engage your enemies at the appropriate range for the weapon you are using.
5. Play the style most suited to your loadout. If you are using a Scout, use your mobility and stealth. If you are using a Heavy, find terrain that encourages CQC (like inside buildings etc).
6. Keep on the move and watch your back for opponents trying to sneak up on you. Remember, scouts and opponents who have skilled in dampening will not show up on your radar. (this is not exactly true as scanning, base suit settings and other passive skills play a role in this, but it's important to understand that your radar does not show all opponents all the time).
Game mechanics...
1. Play with the sensitivity settings for your controller. Try lowering the ADS setting to 10% and work up until you find a value you like.
2. Know/learn at what range to (ADS) Aim Down Sights and at what range to free gun. This changes for each weapon.
On an end note, try not to focus on your KDR too much. Know that everyone who plays this game has had to endure being the Red's whipping boy until they gained SP and experience. Try to focus on wins and war points. Your KDR will improve as you build skills and as you gain experience playing.
When the red river runs, take the dirt road.

Upgrade your Armor and Shield (also re-chargers for those if you use them)
Find a suit that allows you to move but also has a lot of shield and armor on it (usually a medium suit does the trick)
Upgrade your Gun and get better grenades. Grenades are important because you can get a kill or 2, even when you're dying.
Simplify the graphics and make the game run smooth!

Have you thought about doing logi for a sniper? I used to do this when i first started to get sp. I stuck with a sniper and gave him ammo, reped and help out when sniper hunters would come around. Plus the odds of or a little better, all you have to worry about is the annoyed guy who wants to hunt down the sniper. What a surprise if he found a logi whos been out of sight shooting pistols next to his sniper slayer. Or snipe with a purpose, hold down an objective with your Snipes. In the chats let some one know what your trying to do and i'm sure some one would love their personal logi. |

First things first. Dying is the name of this game. This isn't CoD or Battlefield so K/D has no meaning. It is just a number. The number you will want to focus on more is your WP. Bringing that up per match will bring your ISK and SP up faster, resulting in the ability to get better gear. Now if you are still worried about dying so much per match, I suggest you play a sniper role until you bring your SP high enough to spec into better gear. I went the sniper route, but in doing so I stayed on mic with my squad letting people know what was going on. A good support sniper is as good as a scanner. You will also learn where to look for other snipers as well. If you get sniped, try and figure out the direction, and the death screen will tell you from what distance. |

Being logi for a sniper is great, but the aim of a sniper is to be invisible. One of my biggest pet peeves is when someone drops a nanohive right at my feet while I am holed up
But you have a great point in sniping with a purpose |

Dying a lot as a logi? huh. Well considering you already have your class picked out I would suggest finding the Logi chat channel as they can give great advice on fittings based on your play style.
R O N 1 N is a scout training corp that teaches the scout mindset ("don't die" and "the easy way is usually the wrong way") to those willing to learn. This includes teaching logis, assaults, and heavies. There are actually quite a few scouts in there that have also specced into logis. There are, of course, other more qualified corps that can help you as a logi and seeking them out isn't a bad idea if you are truly determained to be the best dam* logi you can be.
Max out armor and shield skills (yea, it was said a lot but it's true).
If you are a bro(medic) then try using a rep tool with more range. This will allow you to stay behind cover while still supporting your team. Once you've got the hang of things you can use a stronger rep tool which will most likely have inferior range.
If you prefer demolitions (RE) then it would be wise to pare it with a scanner in order to actively tell when an enemy is nearing your deadly trap.
I'm obviously not a logi (just look at my sig lol) but I thought I'd chime in anyway. This is DUST so the steps you take on your path to success is completely up to you.

Once 1.8 hits people will not be dying as much. They are working on increasing Time To Kill (TTK) so the game should be a little less frustrating after that, and you will be able to make it to cover more often.
It will be a lot harder for top players to get 50+ kills in a game after 1.8.

Yeah, you stick to your squad, even when you're getting stomped repetitively? LOLno - I suggest that you then put some points in dampening and light frames, and go lone wolf on the outskirts, picking on the stragglers. |
