hey. so first off, in eve the spaceships physically carry ammo around with them in their cargo. missiles, crystals and rounds. pretty similar to dust- but here's where its not. in eve theres different types of ammo and quality levels with varrying effects. for example minmatar has something called barrage ammo that has a much longer falloff than the other ammo types, and it also has republic fleet emp ammo that does em damage which is strong versus shields compared to its normal explosive damage.
thats minmatar, other races have their own specialties like missiles having varrying damage and blasters and lasers having varrying ranges and damage increase/decreases.
so.. what about dust? what if when you were making your loadout there was an extra slot under your weapon to fit you militia or complex ammo in?

I would so love to see this. This ammo types for our guns could replace the goddamned damage mods. |

Has been discussed a lot, unfortunately I hear its probably not going to happen. I discussed this with Aeon and others about a cool way to spice up the laser rifle. (You know you could have Conflagration crystals for close range damage, Scorch crystals for long range) |

I posted this on a different post but thought it might fit here as well. CCP and look at ways to get more funding and help the game even more here it is :
"Items, resources, sockets, gear, vehicles that are TRULY RARE and can change the tide of war. I'm not talking OP, I'm talking different defensive sockets for pc maps that corps can set up before the match. Maybe offensive vehicles with heavier armor/ shield protection to overcome such defenses for attacking corps. Let us buy the ability to call down 2 blaster turrets, a supply depot in areas of our choice. Give us a gear crate with RARE suites that have RARE slots/ Abilities and weapons that are limited.
Ex: Heavy suite with light suit speed, Assault suite with heavy weapon, Logi suit with commando capabilities
Each of these abilities would be available maybe once a month then they change the following month limit them but have a variety. This will make the corps think and strategize about which ones to invest in depending on the situation they believe they will be facing. Or invest in abilities that corps can reward their soldiers with. As far as getting Dust and Eve together, let corps invest in RARE orbital Ammunition, larger area of impact, ammo that can affect areas under cover, ammo specific for vehicles. Offer EVE pilots RARE items, resources, gear that is only available when a contracted corp or squad wins a specific battle or mission if we are looking at PvsE.
Really its all supply and Demand CCP, ( You got way to much supply not enough Demand) Everyone wants to stand out, be different, have a slight edge, have something no one else has. AAAAND everyone also wants to TAKE that something away. Just look at what people will do to kill rare protos, thales, officer weapons, Aur tanks etc. We love to make those people pay for thinking they can have an edge and not loose it. We also LOVE to pay for the slight chance of HAVING the edge ourselves. Our countries make millions of selling off advanced weaponry to each other while concealing their own defenses against those very weapons. Do you have any idea how much you could make if you sold both defensive and offense? Think about it..and if you need anymore suggestions, give me a call I can work for a decent paycheck ;)
P.S.-- CCP play your game, invest in it. Allow your creativity to develop from immersing in it."

i dont think something like this is possible within game at its current state. and making a module system for this would just be a major annoying thing to balance. best to leave this alone until other stuff is worked out. like pve. |

Ammo types could be nice, but you can't compare ammo in eve to potential ammo types in dust, since you're dealing with starship class weaponry.
Autocannons and artillery in eve fire rocket-assisted shells which have limited ability to actually guide themselves to a target. This is possible because the rounds are huge, and you can actually fit extra things into/onto them. A bullet measured in millimeters really limits what you can do with it.
Railguns shoot small flechettes in dust, not hybrid charges.
Plasma weapons in dust take special metal (currently lead) 'charges' (yes theyre also caled charges) and physically turn the solid metal into plasma during the pre-fire sequence. Blasters on starships just take pre-packaged plasma in hybrid charges and shoot that, discardind the empty canister.
Lasers are the only weapons in dust where focusing crystals could simply be carried over, since the concept works just as wellin eve as in dust.
Some that might work well would be things like sabot or depleted uranium rounds for projectile weapons, perhaps enp rounds for the mass driver.
Lasers could have a long range-low damage crystal (and vice versa) option like radio and x-ray crystals. (Best to stay away from the concept of T2 amunition since T2 does not translate well into dust anyways)
Different kinds of metal in the plasma charges would give plasma weapons various range characteristics, like using iron or, again, depleted uranium. (no antimatter: nakes no sense for many reasons).
Railguns could likewise have flechettes made of different materials to give them various range and damage profiles.
I guess what I'm saying is, barrage or rebubluc fleet emp ammo makes no sense for weapons in dust, but you could definitely take certain ammo types and make them work.
Playing since 1st batch of closed beta keys.

There comes a point where we're overcomplicating things. Different ammo types, in theory, sound cool, but the ability to change damage profiles in an instant completely removes any aspect of countering playstyles and turns everyone into a generalist.
Let's say I'm using a CR and come across a shield tanker. In the current iteration, I'm immediately at a disadvantage against this person. Regardless of their gun choice, my damage is going to be cut. At best, I can hope that they're using something my tank style counters and leave it at a draw.
With ammo types, I come across the same shield tanker, swap ammo, and blap him. There's no sense of "Oops, brought a hammer when I needed a screwdriver".
Now, if you lock yourself into one ammo type for the life of the suit (or until you reach a depot), fine. Also note, though, that different ammo in Eve more or less equates to different engagement ranges, and only in the cases of projectiles and missiles does the actual profile change significantly. Hybrids (rails AND blasters) deal kinetic and thermal, lasers deal thermal and EM, while projectiles and missiles can vary.
Never forget
