I think the AI should use the K/D ratio to match the people going to a specific battle.
That way you have a good parameter to send players with similar expertise / proficiency to have a challenging and enjoyable game, even the new comers like me.
That way you will avoid the newbie farming from more experienced players. |

this...is a really good plan, but I don't like the idea of perpetuating the need to the KDR stat to be in the game at all, worrying about your ratio causes alot of problems in the long run, for the game and for players.
But in MGO there was a type of "leveling" system that fluctuated, basically if you fight high level players and do well, your level goes up, you fight low level players and do poorly, your level goes down, it was a good way to let you know what group of people you should be fighting, I presume this works on the same principal where fighting people who have your ratio and doing poorly will obviously decrease your ratio until you settle on an area comfortable for you.
Still creates a problem with working with teams, you could stick a player with a lower KDR in your squad just to fight low level players depending on how the matchmaking works.
Good concept though I'm glad people are using their heads!

Impossible. The people in my corp have varying k/d ratios and that applies to all corps. Segregating people is not the answer.

I understand what you say and this is just general idea not to take it literal.
A good variation could be a new type of public battle with that matching strategy or maybe using public matches with different SP/ISK caps. And leave the others as is or even have uncapped options and it would be the choice of the player.
Then again this is just an idea. I'm new and I will continue playing since I know that it also my inexperience that makes me die but adding to that, you have the ISK and SP as a disadvantage to new players.

Basically an ELO system. But that cuts into the sandbox. If I feel like a badass and want to fight against vets all day long, I should also be able to do that.

What matchmaking could really use is the development of player behavioral profiles similar to Netflix's recommendation engine. Figuring out what data to collect and how to associate it with the players is the first step. Using an approach like this you could eventually come up with an outrageously good matchmaking algorithm, with the occasional crazy outlier. And it would be more reliable than straight SP levels, K/D, equipment, etc. Not a practical investment for a pick-up-and-play game, but if you're expecting your players to stick with you for several months to several years then it might pay off.

There is no matchmaking in Dust514.
There is a Battle Finder and a Squad Finder. That is all.
And so it goes.

If you want a measurement to help with matchmaking then I would suggest average WP per match. It's a much more useful way of determining how effective individual players are. |

See... If you segregate people according to KDR, the high tier matches end up full of snipers and tankers. Also, because ideally the higher tier matches would be more even, people wouldn't be able to maintain their KDRs there and would drop down to the lower brackets, then it would rise, and drop, etc.
Also, it's a very malleable stat. If I wanted to stomp newbies, I would suicide out of the MCC to lower it a bit.
