recently someone made a thread about social hubs and that got me thinking about how this massive feature got me thinking how such a massive feature could make more people join apparently CCP want it too because when GNN linked that persons thread on twitter CCP Saberwing said "We're discussing it" I think this could be another EVE/Dust link through WIS (walk in stations) WIS was a feature CCP were working on for a EVE Social hub that was the target of controversy
So what I purpose is letting us use public stations for hubs
What can you do?
I was thinking of 2 main rooms Training room (mercs only) Public space (mercs/capsullers)
The training room lets you test weapons/vehicles or play generic fps gameodes with no losses or gains
The rec room lets mercs and capsullers socalize and engage in mini games (slay, etc) or watch things like the new eden open, alliance tournament, fanfest, gladatorial arena battles and/or the EVE TV Show (can't wait for the MQ doors to open)
Pros Strengthn the link
Cons people might play only for the social experiance
thoughts? suggestions?

I like it... and yes, I would play only for the social experience. There should also be some comical mini games and a poker table.

My only concern is if PS3s and computers could even handle such an interaction. It would be awsome to be in the same room as a capsoler, but would the PS3s software allow this?

If your only Con is that people play the game to . . . not play the game then I would say it's a no brainer.
However I would say we need more than 2 distinct aras.
We need a Nightclub/Social Bar including Private Booths or rooms that can be rented for ISK (for dealing under the table etc) We need Corporation and Allaince hangers, with virtual firing ranges, flight sims for the relevant characters. We need Marketplaces including stall space that links directly to the player market. We need a thunderdome, completr with betting enclosure Finally we need to be able to go to other people's merc/captain's quarters (also for the dodgy dealing)
There should be a hub at every station, with each of the locations having architecture relevant to the station they are on.

We are certainly discussing it in some capacity :) Part of what has drawn me in and kept me involved with other games in the past is the whole social aspect - when I was nerding out in lectures or classes I would be sitting on a social hub and "playing" the game without actually playing it! It's something EVE also has in some capacity through through EVE Gate, etc.
There's nothing concrete yet, but it's definitely being thrown around about how we would like to expand the functionality of the game.

A simple way to start this would be to have a screen showing the forum in our merc quarters. This would let us take part in the community while we are waiting to play. The stupid soft keyboard will be a restriction but we will make due if this option is made available to us.

I don't think that anyone is saying that there is anything wrong with that. We are just looking at there being a link to the larger dust community. The one that exists beyond our own corps.

O that I agree with....
The link between the games NEEDS to be stronger.....right now i no joke feel like there's no impact from my actions at all
Fw is a joke and an isk pit...most games are decided in a matter of 3 minutes.....not kidding three minutes into most matches ONE team gets redlined
And don't get me started on PC being broken and flooding money into corps that lock districts....hence why I don't try PC anymore....proto gear and officer gear is NOTHING to these people....I'm not bankrupting my character to take a district when my opponent can run literally anything he wants and NEVER having to worry about his wallet taking a scratch

If we had Social Hubs in a PS Home sorta fashion, I'd be happy. Sooner or later we'll have clone representatives, like EVE players, that we can dress up and stuff. It would be extremely powerful to develop a social aspect pass the shooter and the number-crunching games of Dust and EVE. That's the true MMO experience. Being able to do things other than just "play the game".
A lot of players, EVE side and Dust side, don't want to get into the heavy stuff and would rather just be social creatures. And even then, a lot of fans who don't play, but read stories about New Eden, would definitely join in for the social sphere.
Not only that but it would also enhance the competitive-social experience. Instead of having to know every other chat for trading, you could just go to a certain hub and look for weapon traders. Or, if you're looking for some mercenaries, you could go to a bar and chat up some fellows in there. You could be a CEO organizing his forces inside their own War Room at their social hub. You could be an Alliance leader sitting at the executive table with the other leaders as you discuss the future.
I think the big issue would be how hard it would work the server...If there's a way to make it work the only other issue is just getting it done properly.

I think that there is a solution to this that also adresses people's concern over a lack of game modes and which will satisfy the capsuleers who want the locked door open. Flesh out the stations. That would give us social spaces, add game modes as you would have the maps of the stations to fight over as well and when that's done, unlock the door for the capsuleers.
Over time, more can be added to stations by creating new maps and having them connected by elevators, to give them a built in loading time.

This would also make the idea of visible character customization more viable. Which would mean that people could buy visual modifications with Aurum.
And I'd really love the ability to hang out in the game. That would really add to the MMO aspect and would be the possible stepping stone for greater things to come. |

Bingo. It was actually my thread but its not like I invented the wheel, it was an idea people have been posting in the feedback section since the official forums went up.
Its the "Starbucks" that your boss talked about at the DICE conference whether he realizes it or not.
IMO it begins with first maximizing the social experience in the game's first social hub: The War Room. There's literally no way both proximity and private chats aren't active in there and headscratching why the map doesn't work/the Ground Commander doesn't get like 2 minutes to forum a strategy before every match.
This game is supposed to be tactical. |

That's disappointing because it means CCP Cmdr Wang lied to my face.
One of your first events was a Q&A inside the Event Horizon Lounge where it was him and another dev [CCP Frame I think it was, but don't quote me] that a friend and myself attended. ZionShad was there as well. he also referenced Corp Training Rooms http://tinyurl.com/luqp85p
My question was about 3rd person social areas and he said [i'm quoting him now] "Dust will have a wide range of 3rd person social areas, much more impressive than this." This is at the heart of many fans' issue with CCP promising one thing and not executing. Most fans of this game would appreciate a synthesis of your promises/follow through.

But on their timescale only i would not pay attention to anything they promise unless its in the patch notes. I mean they cant even arrange one/ two people to deploy event rewards ffs.

Yes, some key game integration tools are missing from PS Home, so I agree it's not the best idea to fully develop an extension of the Dust gamespace into PS Home at the moment. Regardless, a purchasable player space or clubhouse would seem to be an ideal placeholder step that could net CCP a good deal of money while we wait for integration of station spaces. Who knows PlayStation Now may open up the ability to use PS home anywhere.
