Way way way back in the old days of the closed beta we used to have a very good restocking system
It only restocked what you actually needed
Problem is this worked too well so CCP canned it
It worked liked this
Item A: 1 Item B: 2 Item C: 3
Now if you wanted to restock to 5 then the old system would simply restock A 4 times, B 3 times and C 2 times
The new system which we have now would just add 5 new items to each item so A would be 6, B would be 7 and C would be 8
Why cant we go back to the old system? it was much quicker and easier

I can not say what an incredible help this would be!
+1 make it so!
The system right now is highly annoying! It takes forever to restock, if you don't want to end up with loads of unnecessary items in your assets.

I think the reason CCP removed it, is because it only works when you have 1 dropsuit with a particular item. When you have two or more dropsuits, the current way works better. Basically lets say you have Dropsuit A with Item X and Dropsuit B with Item X. You go to restock Dropsuit A and put it at 100, You need to get Dropsuit B up to say 50. Go click on restock Dropsuit B and it skips restocking Item X showing that you already had enough when in reality you wanted 150 total of one particular item.
CCP didn't fail, it just depends on what angle you look at things from. |

Why not have an option to change how it functions on the fly?

Because it worked
Maybe CCP might bring this back and class it as a new feature

Apparently it was bugged. Whenever you restocked to 10 it would and you had, say, 8 Assault Rifles - it would charge you for all 10 and only give you 2.
But it was an awesome system none-the-less and I'd love to see it brought back.

Just buy everything in the thousands and you only have to worry about restocking every 3months.

I don't mind the restocking system now but it would have been nice if I would have known how it works from the start, then I wouldn't have 200 basic shield rechargers.
Because, that's why.

let's say I have 2 suits (one scout, one assault) they both have an AR on them if I lose a scout I then have to restock my items to use the medium suit because the old system would restock to only 1 AR even if I tried to restock both the old system had it's advantages but wasn't THAT great

Would work better to have a "virtual" suit fitting function. You would pick what you want from the market and create a fit. You would then purchase that fit.

Dumbing down?
So its better to have a restocking option which is time consuming and complicated as opposed to the old system which only restocked what you were missing

it's still going to be messy.
Let's say I have 2 fits that use R-9 uplinks. I have 30 copies of fit A and 70 copies of fit B. I still need 70 total copies of the R-9 Uplink. So let's say I use fit A all up and need to buy 30 more copies. Since I still have 40 R-9 uplinks leftover from fit B, the proposed method wouldn't purchase any new uplinks for me.
Now I have only 40 usable copies of fit B instead of 70, even though I didn't use that fit at all. If I want all 70 back, I will need to go and buy the extras individually, which is the exact problem you are all trying to avoid.
The problem gets worse as you recycle more and more pieces: shield extenders, armor repairers, cardiac regulators, the same rifle on a half dozen suits but a different sidearm each time...If fit C which used the same shield extenders as fit B, I could have depleted it's stock further and now my shield and uplinks are at different levels.
If I buy fit B up to 70 again, all my other fits will have disparities. Unless every suit is 100% segregated in inventory, there is no way to avoid this problem
At least with the current system, if I buy 1 and use 1 fit A, it won't affect my fit B at all. |

if only I had an ice cream sandwich. Yes auto restock is dumbing down. Just like our new shiny auto win tanks.
