There are a lot more people on the ps3... And it will stay this way for at least another year.
CCP should make dust feel finished on the ps3 but at the same time port dust to the ps4. There are not many games on the ps4 yet, so it would be a good move, but CCP should make dust on the ps3 better so it gets a good reputation when it does arrive on ps4.
CCP should not abandon the ps3 audience.... Because we will have a large influence on the ps4 community.
I think I'm the only person still waiting for mechs/giant robot killing machines.....

I think with some of the decisions made on the PS4, it's likely the PS3 will still have a larger playerbase than PS4 for at least another year. Might even be longer.
I expect CCP will do what they do with EVE, and not phase out support for the older system until the new one is the majority of their playerbase. With EVE, they don't up the specs in an update until the systems being made obsolete are a tiny portion of the total playerbase. It probably won't be to the same extent in DUST, but I hope they take a similar approach. |

Though I can't say I'm a "broke mofo" or a little child either, I have yet to purchase a next gen system. And I ain't rich but I could go and buy both next gen consoles right now if I really wanted to.
But I don't. And neither do a lot of people.
I would say ps3 has 2 years left at least. Still plays blu rays. Still has netflix or Amazon prime.
No need to go to ps4 yet. Maybe when the technical hiccups are finished and they come out with a few great exclusives....I'm at least 6 months from buying one. I also just built a new gaming PC, so that takes some of the edge off. But truth be told, the itch just isn't there like it was going from ps2 to ps3 for me.
Once they get more content. Otherwise you are just paying more money to play mediocre games on a system that will probably break, whereas others will pay less for a more stable system when the good games get here. |

The problem with the PS3 is that it limits CCP in developing the game (as they have to make code as tight as possible so as to not make our games crash)

I think that the first step will be Dust on the emulator that is supposedly coming to the PS4. This would extend the life of Dust during the transition of both the gamers and CCP to the PS4. I say that could work for a year, maybe two.

Probably will, they were probably gonna make it cross platform anyway, sony will only continue to support the ps3 for 2 year though so remember that, and hopefully all of the ps3 games, at least in downloaded form, will be supported on ps4, so it wont be long before the ps3 IS a dead system.

Of course the PS3 isn't dead nor will it be dead anytime soon (though depends on your opinion of "soon'). And also I doubt CCP is going to just all of a sudden say "Dust 514 no longer works on PS3 and instead you need a PS4 to play TROLOLOLOLO." No way CCP whiplashes their customers like that. There will at the very least be a good length transition period where it is available on PS3 and PS4 (or whatever they move to).

i understand why you think that but the fact is out of 80million people on ps3 but if i was to make a conservative guess only 10000-12000 people are playing dust. 3000-5000 online at any given moment. and a haldful of those accounts are alts and people who quit after a few days.
dust 514 on the ps3 is barely treading water. it has a better chance at surviving on ps3 where theres very little competition for games right now, and power to make this game what it should be and not a pathetic fragment of what the game was envisioned as. keeping it on the ps3 any longer than they need to is a foolish move. |

ps3 aint dead, its dying. the ps4 will still take some time to take the ps3's place, i got the ps3 in 2011 and that thing was released in 2006 and the ps4 came in the end of 2014, so the ps3 will still have some time

just because only a small handful of ps3 users don't play dust doesn't mea the ps3 is dead.... have you ever hear about BF, COD, Resistance and the other mega hit fps, racing, fighting block buster hits on the ps3?
the ps3 is still alive and kicking for at least till this time next year or in 2016. im getting a new ps3 in a few months because my ps3 is about 5-6 years old ad I still love playing on it. im not going to ps4 until they fix all the bugs in 6 months or a year. You sound just like an xbox player.

Even Destiny, which is being projected to be the biggest franchise in console history is supporting current generation systems.
And Bungie isn't even opening Destiny Beta until September it is said. let alone the talking about the spring or summer...

I personaly think a good tactic would be for CCP to keep this on the PS3 for at least 1 year first half working on only PS3,
second half working to port to PS4 while still making more content for PS3 (as in set a small group to port it).
oh, and preferebly 2 years. 1 working on PS3 only, second have a small group working on the port.
