so im wondering if anybody else has ever had this problem when using the different tiers of suits, i can on average pull at least 20-30- or even 40 kills with mlt or adv suits and gear, but out of the blue yesterday i said i want to try to be a proto f*g so i spent 8 mil on some suits and guns (proto) now i run scout (minmitar) and went 15-16 and 16 -10 in two games i was like hmmmmm well thats funny but switched back and went (35-2) (27-8) (29-6) now i dont have lvl 5 shield, armor, reps, kin cats, cardio, mostly adv stuff so that may have alot to do with it nor do i have alot of cpu space but it just seemed to me like it was no point in even using it in the first place. now i really dont use proto and find it utterly useless but i would like to ask some people on their thoughts.
i try to stop puking but proto bums make me sick

I kinda agree man. I find I do about the same in scrub gear and starter fits as I can do in proto.
Equipment seems to be worth the isk to go to proto level, especially things like rep tools, hives etc... also tank turrets and modules seem worth the investment.
However proto suits and proto stuff like that, I dont see the need. I guess it depends what you are after. Personally I want the isk from pub matches so it makes sense to keep things really cheap. |

I am kinda with you. I skilled up proto suits for amarr, bought 1000 copies of each, then tried them out. I was a bit underwhelmed with the proto performance tbh. Don't get me wrong, I do kill slightly more and die slightly less, but I just don't think the performance difference I am having is worth the jump from 3k isk per suit to 150k isk per suit.
OF course maybe if KDR mattered one bit, or if I solo'ed less, or even if the matches actually meant something, I might switch suits. As it is right now, after getting my base skills up and learning FPSes again (my last FPS was Doom 2) I mostly tend to kill double or more than I die in std gear.
While there is no better place to be wealthy than the Gallente Federation, there is no hell worse for the poor either.

Yes. My only proto fit (LP all the way) is awesome, but I do eventually get dropped in it, long before I figure I would in the 4-7 ADV fits that it displaced, financially.

I find it funny, i can do decent I a basic suit (around 20-25/4-6) rolling solo. Then I use a proto suit in a squad and do the exact same..... O_o
O well, at least I don't go negative with isk in 1 death ^.^

It seems with TTK the way it is there isn't that much difference between the levels unless you are tanking.
If you use the additional CPU/PG to for better weapons, equipment and grenades then the difference really would be far less than assumed.
I get just as much fun out of 50 standard suits in a sitting as I do my proto AV setup. I'll burn 10-15 of those up a night and there goes 1.8M or more ISK. I don't end an ambush in regret if I lost 7-8 standard suits.
The problem is that since 1.7 (aka Tank 514) dropped it is a lot harder to not bring out the proto AV to counter all the FOTM tank spammers.
Before Uprising you could actually afford the SP to dabble in all the suits but it looks as though with 1.8 there will be even more specialization then ever before.
I really want to want to skill into a fat suit with a decent FG and poke me some tanks but for now I have to rely on my Amarr friends and hope they bring the good stuff. |

Like most the rest of you here, I have also noticed this. I run s SEVER logistics suit with a basic CR, hives, scanner, and RE Shield extenders, and armor plates. Total cost 18k Total EHP, just under 600
Adv is the same, just with adv weapon and a hacking mod and about 100 more ehp Proto is the same, just proto weapon, rep tool, 2 hacking mods, and about 200 more EHP than the standard.
I think the reason PERSONALLY that I do better in STD gear is that I am more conscious about my HP, since I have much less than everyone else on average out in the fight, and I tend to actually practice the hit and run, while dropping hives and laying scans for my squad, with the odd RE for area denial, and objective coverage.
In the proto suit I tend to find myself running head long into fights rather than trying to kite or flank because I have only marginally higher EHP (Minmatar suit, I gotta keep my speed up to my assault friends while running proto because of the rep tool)
Same goes for when I'm running my Minmatar assault suit, except my STD suit has the standard CR, adv and proto have the assault variants, all have RE.
Its all a mental thing, but that little extra EHP would really help if I could manage to keep myself from trying to get in head on engagements while using better gear.
I am here to ask you one question, and one question only: EXPLOSIONS?
THAT SENTENCE HAD TOO MANY SYLLABLES! APOLOGIZE!

Personally I run MLT/STD w ADV mods, equipment and unless someone's seriously tanked never found a huge difference between TTK from suit to suit.

Happens; specially with scouts bro.
You have at most 60+HP but the suit costs 130k instead of 40 k.
So one plays a little more conservative, thing that in DUST514 actually gets you killed.

ADV suits are amazingly powerful for their price tag, some of the best value for you ISK in the game.
proto suits right now are only really an improvement over ADV if your HP stacking in the extreme or by simply adding dmg mods and a proto weapon to do some serious DPS
alot of players have realised this and have started running cheap heavy suits with dmg mods in highs and plate buffer int he lows with a proto weapon for the same bang at a cheaper buck (and because they seem to need all that HP to not die due to lack of skill)
hell my ADV fit runs with 800 HP and i nuke protos with it easily with only STD weapons on it, in this environment the only real reason to go proto is for extreme fits that cant really be made with basic/adv |
