But yeah, back in the day when I was just learning the game this used to account for a LOT of my deaths, as it was way more common than it is nowadays.

I never experienced the shotgun, but I've ran into the HMG guys who use the same tactic. Pisses me off to no end. The only fix I can think of is that it should take a few seconds for you to take you weapon out when you get out of vehicles.
It's not really that high on my "Things I want done in Dust" list however.
