Just got done reading Templar One for the second time and while I enjoyed it, I can't shake the feeling more of the gadgets from lore need to be here in Dust.
CASE IN POINT: The Flaytrap and its racial equivalents.
Basically its a claymore-style device that automatically flings projectiles when the enemy gets within 10m or so. It uses blades rather than explosives but i'm sure each racial version would be different (minmatar version would probably be explosive) since it killed normal soldiers it probably would only do wounding damage to mercs but as the active scanner is in the game it already has a counter.
I can't see allowing more then two to be placed, but the animation that arms it should be lengthy and vulnerable like the one used for the Nanite Injector.

why would u want a claymore? two handed weapons suck..
longswords r better. u get to use shields... |

Holding a 3 foot long sword in one hand is more difficult than you think.
A shortsword, armingsword, broadsword or a sabre is what you want for a Sword and Board style. Hell, even a long knife like a Gladius would work.
And before you say "but we're supersoldiers" the swords would have to be modified accordingly to damage us, undoubtedly adding weight accordingly.
Totally not Spademan.

I want other thrads that I'm supporting to get more attention than this. But yes, those things sound vicious and awesome! I usually figure out a way to outsmart traps so ... I'm all for new ones getting implemented!! Body parts all over the place!!

RE's seem to be like what you are talking about here, maybe just adding some variants would be a good idea. Less skilling more killing so to speak.
EDIT: Laser sight activation would be nice.

support +1 but i like the blade idea better once placed it has a scan radius of 10m when an enemy walks into radius it has a .5 second lock on time and then a 1.4 charging time (charging makes a sound) it then fires multiple nova darts/blades in a single direction with a decent spread not deadly but can hurt an entire group at once say 1 take out 2/5ths of an average assualt suit of same tier

on one side you could have profile affect if it gets triggered or not ie adv scout avoids bsc, proto avoids adv & skilled scouts avoids proto. on the other hand the reason its not in the game yet is simply a balance reason and its a non priority, im sure there will be a "gadgets" update some time in the future.
