Right now, PC is nothing more than a dressed up pub match. The mechanics of it once the boots hit the ground is no different than skirmish. There is no feel of escalation or difference between attacker and defender other than some lag benefit at the opening.
There are also complaints about PC as it pertains to the rest of the community -PC is not worth getting into because there is nothing special about it other than a way to earn ISK -PC is leading to protostomping in pub matches from the ISK it generates
We have all heard that PC 2.0 is in development and rumors/hints about what it will entail. Based on what we have heard, I would like to give my thoughts on what it should be and see what you think about whether it would be beneficial or not.
1 GÇô PC needs to be expanded. Right now, it is easy for a corp/alliance to control a massive amount of it and still have diverse enough timers to defend the districts. There needs to be a way for smaller corps to get into it. For this, I propose the addition of high-sec districts to be added. They would have a much reduced payout from clones compared to low-sec districts. Also, Concord would govern them so that no corp could own both high and low sec districts as it would be seen as a military buildup threatening empire control (for lore purposes). You can attack a low-sec district from high sec but, once you capture one, a timer begins for you to abandon your high-sec holdings (can be sold off) or Concord will seize them. The payout for high sec districts needs to be low enough that it would not be of much interest to those involved in low sec. It is more about training and getting a foothold than any type of wealth accumulation.
2 GÇô PC needs more of an attacker/defender role than it currently has. We have head bits of information about Skirmish 3.0 which is supposed to resemble 1.0. This is sorely needed in PC battles to give a level of immersion and that one corp is actually defending their district. More logistics needs to come into play as far as properly setting up your district for defense. For this, the game will need to introduce the new skirmish to PC as well as player owned turrets. The addition of player owned turrets creates a sink for the ISK generated from the district as they will be needed as the first line of defense for the district. Their AI needs to be good enough that they have to be taken out before a push can be made on the structure. This would give meaning to the need for tanks to barrage the defenses and for the defenders to bring out their own to hold the line.
3 GÇô Player owned war barges should also be an integral part of low-sec PC as well as corp armories. Player owned war barges would only have a set number of vehicles/installations that they could hold. They would have a cargo hold that can carry x number of m3 of equipment and it is up to the corp to decide what goes in it. Vehicles would be pre-fitted before being placed onto the barge so they have to decide the makeup prior to the battle. If the barge is destroyed in space there is the risk of the cargo being lost via looting. This accomplishes two things. The first is that it adds to the amount of strategy involved in planning for the battle and it funnels more corp ISK back into PC itself. Future additions of different planetary types would only add to the importance of pre-battle planning in loading up a barge.
What does all of this accomplish? -It makes PC more interesting to get into. It will have grander battles that are above what you can find in a simple pub match. It is a reason to strive to get a corp together to participate -It keeps ISK within PC and less to be used in Pub matches by having to purchase barges and installations -There is a much greater time involvement in planning for districts. This cuts down on how many districts a corporation will want to hold because it is time that is taken away from gaining SP to cap out. Too many districts and FCGÇÖs will find that they are spending too much effort to plan for all the districts. -It gives smaller corps the ability to get into PC and gain some proficiency in it without being steamrolled by more experienced corps. -It will interest EVE pilots in what is going on due to the ability to loot a barge
Thoughts?
