I made it a point to use niche weapons and roles lately so I could make this post, speed tank, passive scanner, shotguns, NK, smg, MD, plasma cannon, and flaylock.

Truly I had the most fun I've had in a while sniping with a plasma cannon, denying entry with my MD, and finishing mercs with my sidearm.

 but

I died, alot more often, than if I was just running a rifle and doing my slayer thing.

It was fun and I enjoyed it greatly, but when I switched back into the CR I was just so much more useful to the team, it was kinda saddening really.

With 1.8 my class, the Matari scout, will be the best hackers in the game however as of now I find very little reason to use niche roles such as the CQC shotty, barring preference, when there's just a better all round role to be filled.

I love niche weapons but why use them, my NK scouts are a perfect example: squishy suit that needs to get close to do damage, I love the class but why use it when I could do: all round class with large tank with weapon that does well at most ranges.

There are still some roles that are unique, such as remote explosives, but I find most fits are all about who can do the most damage while maintaining a large tank.

Mods like profile damps, damage mods, and range amplifiers are also in the wrong slot placement making it so mods that should be beneficial to armor tankers are in their main tanking slots, and likewise for shields.

This makes it so areas that the races should be specialized in are unusable to them, putting a wedge in the play styles of those who wish to use their races roles correctly like say a galente with range amps, or a Matari with damage mods, they're forced to sacrifice their main tank to do something they're ment to be doing and it just feels wrong to me personally.

Well I have no idea if yall will read this or just ignore it, but hey do what you can right?

I only use minmitar weapons other than the shotgun and plasma cannon, and some of their stuff, barring the CR is hard to use, and when nova knives and SG are outdpsed in their optimal/effective ranges by spray and pray weapons that require less accuracy, thats a problem. same goes for nova knives

Care to explain the a bit more? Specifically the scanning mods, I get that damage mods need to be in the low slots because of tank (armor) vs gank (damage mods). How do you figure dampeners and range extenders are off?

We also have 3 tiers of slots (kink of... it is a little different).

Eve Low = Dust Low (armor and structure mods)

Eve Mid = Dust High (shields, non-turret utility such as scanners and webs)

Eve High = Dust Weapon/ Equipment (Weapon systems and turret utility like neutralizers and repairers, though Dust has these separated a bit)

Niche weapons and styles really should be more useful.

Niche weapons should be more effective (do more damage) in their operating regime than generalist weapons do in theirs.

For example, if a Rail Rifle can kill an enemy in 3 seconds anywhere within 100m then a shotgun with its operating range of 5 meters should be 20 times as effective and thus kill enemies in 0.15 seconds.

That's a little over the top but it has to be something along those lines.

Another interesting thing to think about is not just the linear range but the area that a weapon can operate over. If we pretend that a merc can operate just as effectively in all directions (in front, left, right, behind) then a 100m rail rifle has an effective area of 31,416 m^2 whereas a 5m shotgun has 79 m^2. So if this is our metric then the shotgun should be 397 times as powerful.

nk's are my thing, there not impractical for me, infact its the only thing in the game i have taken to by default (so to speak) a example of a really good round i had the other day was 20/2 with the nk's sure a bad game is a bad game, but i do better with them than any thing els, it all comes down to play style every weapon (apart from plasma cannon) is op when you know exactly how to play it.
