So I switched it up last night and played as adv. Amarr logi instead of my typical minnie scout, and i just had this thought:
CCP, Why not adjust suit prices based off whatever deaths per match metrics you have for the different roles? What I mean by this, is that, if I can get 20 kills in an adv Amarr suit, score somewhere in the ballpark of 800 - 1200 WP in a match with it, but only die 2-4 times due to a combination of higher ehp and the ability to run with other players, and then score/kill the same as a minmatar scout, but die maybe 5-10 times instead (due to **** ehp and usually running lone wolf/flanking), then why does my suit Cost the same? My profit margin for essentially the same performance is halved.
sure you could argue 'get better' but realistically scouts will on average die much more often (and permanently) than other suits. Scouts do not benefit as greatly from blobbing, instead becoming the first down & weakening the blob, and running in prime conditions for a scout means higher risks and no revives nearby. Statistically they are bound to die more often, even scoring better than a logi/assault slayer, scouts probably statistically die more.
Not to say I'm asking specifically for a reduction of scout suit prices. I'm sure whatever telemetry CCP collects shows a different deaths per match metric for each role. In the interests of allowing people spec'd into less common roles like scout, commando, etc, I'm suggesting CCP attempts to balance out the average profit margin per match, so if you perform well in a role that statistically will die more often, then you can still break even. |

I agree they essentially did this with tier 2 heavies, their price is lower. I think heavies being a bigger suit therefor more materials should be more expensive and light suits should be cheaper than the medium suits. |

i thought this was going to be about rebalancing suit prices since a militia tank is cheaper than most higher end suits. |

I think that merits a separate discussion b/c comparing mlt ranks to proto suits on price alone seems a bit daft. Effectiveness of AV/ mlt tank spam would be a better format to debate that on.
Profit margin based on average deaths is what I'm trying to talk about, like I can run my adv Amarr suit w/ adv dam and armor tank and get a much higher profit margin than my adv minnie shotgun scout due solely to play styles inherent to the different suits (a difference which may be lessened by better suit/meta balance but will never disappear completely) and that lessened profit margin is essentially an indirect nerf |

Don't expect prices to adjust according to performance. At least not here in New Eden. After all, Dust's economic model will be based on the Eve Online economic model where players have full control of the prices. If you think dropsuits are expensive now, wait until the full-blown economy arrives.
