I am using the AR at the moment...
Is it worth taking it from level 4 to 5? |

Do you have a lot of isk?
If no, then no, prototype anything is a good way to run out of isk if you aren't in a proto squad.
If yes, then go for it. |

IMO, it is worth it, but it may not make sense depending on how many skill points you have and if you have more pressing needs.
Do you feel like the lack of sharpshooter is stopping you from applying enough damage before being killed in 1:1 encounters? Are people barely escaping the wrath of your AR?
If the answer is no, then you're probably better off spending them somewhere else.
After you die, ask yourself why it happens, and apply your skill points to lessening the chances of it happening.
That's how I've spent my skillpoints over time, and it's worked out well. |

I have many times been just one or two hits shy of winning that 1 on 1 encounter, and thats using militia AR. Makes me wonder if taking sharpshooter to 5 could make a militia weapon on par with an advanced. |

Could sharpshooter at 5 make a militia weapon on par with an advanced? Sharpshooter skill does two things for you. It lowers the bullet dispersion rate and drops your recoil, meaning you put more rounds on your target at range. As primarily assault having AR at full fives, "all related skills", let me give you some advice.
If AR is going to be your definite weapon of choice, it's not a waste. Once you get sharpshooter and proficiency at lvl 5, your basic assault rifle is comparable to a bare bones GEK. Everyone rushes in and goes for proficiency first which does absolutely nothing if you can't put as many rounds on target as possible. Skill both equally if possible keeping them both at the same levels, this way when you do get the proto AR's, you get the max bang for your buck. The Duvolle is a moody bittch without supporting skills properly in place.
But yes, the basic AR will wreck faces will full fives and a militia dmg mod on a basic fit, makes money and breaks proto.

now im curious. if i skill into sharpshooter skill, will the my assault rifle still be as effective at close range as it is right now, without sharpshooter skills? i hear reduction on hip-fire makes guns less effective at close range...
no im not a rookie, but i want to know how this works...

I've been wondering that too... I started leveling sharpshooter to try and get more hits at longer ranges, but yeah, i really think it does make a difference. I almost never win cqc these days with an AR. Stopped even trying...
Shouting doesn't make your opinion seem more valid, it just makes you seem more annoying.

That should largely be in relation to your own shooting ability. Lowering dispersion means the cone of fire (the circle of possible places your shot will go) will be smaller. If you're able to keep your crosshairs on the target at all time, you would be more effective at close range with the skill than without.
With the skill, your shots would be more precise as the bullets would restricted to a narrower cone of fire. In relation to the accuracy of your shots (your ability to center your crosshairs on your target) however... |
