When joining a public contract, we only get to see the war barge for one second before battle starts. Its not only completely pointless, but very ugly to look at; you see your HP and ammo counters going down, and some crappy image of a glitched-looking terrain. Its bad for verisimilitude.
Get rid of it.

The devs wanted to get into battles faster hence why the warbarge timer was decreased. It's just a very bad change imo as it made Dust more a lobby shooter and less a tactical one.
The old warbage timer allowed people to squad up, scout out the other team to see the quality of them and also gave people a chance to maybe figure out what the rest of their own team was playing as by looking at what they were wearing in the warbage (might not be completely accurate, but it would give some pointers as to what the team missed).
Lowering the warbage timer has lead me to always check out the other team in the battle, costing us valuable seconds, so I fully agree we need a longer warbage timer back...
Edit: Plus, when/if they ever get the map in the warbage to work, people can also check out the map before deploying.

Well, Dust is a lobby shooter. Once the pool table gets fixed, though, I'd agree that there's more opportunity to label Dust a tactical shooter. By and large, though, with limited game modes that essentially require attrition of the other team, Dust's tactical possibilities are sketchy. We can infer from the change made that shortens the War Barge length that the feedback CCP received was that people wanted to get into games quicker. The change definitely cut down 1 minute before every fight.
That's not to say that CCP couldn't implement the war barge when we enter the queue (leave quarters upon queuing and enter the Barge as the match fills). I think the problem there is that the War Barge is part of the game map, so it may not be possible to load us into the Barge beforehand.

You also have this little quote from the same thread, which obviously suggests this change wasn't (entirely at least) based on player feedback:

Maybe the devs spent more time waiting than playing because their matchmaker kept throwing them into games that were almost over? Just a thought, because that happened like all the time. If they would fix that, people would be in battles longer.
I just don't see what the problem with a minute or so waiting in the warbage is, but then again I came from that great game MAG where you could also risk a little bit of waiting between matches. I just had no problem with it there either as the matches were really tactical as everyone had a little time getting prepared before the matches started.

So much this. Now a days, I don't even see the warbarge, but it really helped with squading and gave you time to converse with your team. Now its just pointless and I get angry when I see a .3 second glimpse of it.

I get to walk around it for about 8 - 10 secs. But I do miss the war barge 1 minute timer though, ment you could see who you were playing (if anyone). |
