So when you swap to your secondary, nanite injector, reptool, hive, etc, where exactly does your primary go? We could say that nanites break it down and store the molecular components in a special slot on the dropsuit, but all of that deconstruction and reconstruction is a hassle - why not just holster the weapon on the player's back?
When swapping between weapons/tools there could be a simple animation of slinging the weapon over the shoulder - the weapon would then be holstered on the player's back a la magnets (or some other future tech). Other players would then see what weapons or equipment players are carrying.
Assault - You would see the secondary holstered on the hip be it SCRp, SMG, NK's, Flaylock and then the primaries holstered on the back - SCR, LR, Shotgun, AR, PC, MD, CR, RR. As far as equipment read logi idea below.
Logistics - Weapons will be similar to assault but other players (and enemies) will gain the advantage of seeing what equipment you are carrying. On the back would be nanohives and uplinks, on the hip would be nanite injectors, reptools, and RE's.
Scouts - Same as assault, equipment same as logi.
Heavies - Ok so it isn't feasible to holster a heavy weapon (HMG and FG) on one's back so my idea would to have it simply hang off to the side, or possibly have the character swing it around so it is hanging on the shoulder but behind them.
**Grenades**
Would not be shown - I'm fine with the nanites idea for these.

Would be nice. Maybe one day. There's more important things for CCP to do first though.
When I play as a sniper, I'm more likely to be nearer to the opponents redline than my own.

You forgot about the Commando's 2x light weapons. Have both on the back like in Mass Effect?
As for the Sentinels/Heavies, it would be kinda neat if when they switched to their sidearm slot, they continued to hold the heavy weapon in their right hand, lowered the weapon, and use their left hand to wield the sidearm.
1.8 can't get here soon enough.

+1 for displaying slung/holstered weapons. Extra credit for rendering equipment in some way.

I really like this idea. Immediately I came up with a BUNCH of ideas. BUT usually my ideas are just way too much for CCP to handle, SO yeah whatever animation we get would be cool

I actually think this would be a nifty addition for the game.
I will go you one further and say that I would like to at least show a single grenade, uplink, hive, repper, ect on the character.
If they were really sharp there woudl be a slight modification to the character based on the modules...slightly different gauntlets, backpacks, helmets, armor plates and such.

Kirk was talking about him using this huge ass Plasma Cannon. He wondered where it went on his slim Gallente suit when he switched to his equipment....
+1 for showing equipment and stuffs

Do we really want to know where he stores his "huge ass cannon?"

I like the idea, but I like switching to my sidearm to lure in the red than switching to surprise them with a shotgun.
What I need to blow up a tank: some REs, a couple Flux 'Nades, and... a Flaylock.

I imagine you have a shoulder strap or something to connect to the gun. Or maybe a hook comes out of the backpack and you just hang it on where you can't see it. and no one else. Cloak technology at its best. |

I'd honestly rather see somer sort of "jumping in vehicle" animation first.
As for equipment or suits, we should have different icons on the radar. I'd love to see a cross shape icon for any player with a repair tool, or a cross icon on your hud when a player is low health and you have a repair tool.
A heavy suit might have a shield icon or something, etc.
Of course, this would only be for allied vision.

I always presumed that there was a hi tech bag somewhere (or nanites) and that was why you couldn't change weapons if you'd overheated. The container couldn't deal with the heat.
Eve has containers that compress stuff magically. It could be the same tech. |

However having the items on the player model is much cooler.
PS3s would probably start catching on fire if you did this though. We probably have to wait until we move to another platform. |
